Have you ever tried to grow a plant by yourself?

Do you grow any plants by yourself? My father has a vegetable garden, where he grows vegetables, berries, greens and fruits. This is a photo of seedlings for tomatoes, which must first be grown at home on the windowsill, and then transplanted into the ground at home on the land.

Have you ever tried to grow any plant by yourself?

Yes. Planted so many but the two are now big trees at my village which always remember me my childhood days. A very pleasant feeling.

Hi @Tatiana812

Thank you for sharing your experience about growing plants from seeds. Do you also select and produce the seeds by yourself, how my grandfather was used to?

I know @KarenVChin will be really interested to your answer, as she’s building now her vegetable garden

Saludos Farid

@Tatiana812 - this is wonderful that your father grows his own tomatoes from seeds.

Do you know are the names of these tomato plants? I was at my local community vegetable garden sale that @ErmesT @FaridTDF mentioned last month and there were several tomato plants that originated from Russia: Black Krim, Caspian Pink, Black Prince - to name just a few.

Cheers,

Karen

@KarenVChin It has a little bit strange name - " a beef heart". I don’t know, may be it has another name in other langeages. I translated it from russian language. Do you know this type of tomatos?

@ErmesT no, my father buys seeds, doesn’t produces them

Oh, that’s ok, @Tatiana812

In Italy we call that tomato “beef earth” too

My wife is cooking it on the barbecue, then she add basil, garlic and olive oil

Thanks for sharing @Tatiana812 - have no idea! but I am sure they taste flavorful and sweet. Nothing beats eating home grown veggies, picked off the vine.

Have you tried eating a fresh picked tomato in the morning, then picking from the same tomato plant late in the afternoon when the sun has shined on it all day. There is definitely two difference kinds of taste of the same tomato.

And, for me, I can eat it either way.

Also does your father try growing a new tomato variety every year to search for a new tomato plant your family likes? I find it fun to do a “taste test” with family and friends to get their opinions - lots of chatting, lots of laughing, lots of fun!

Cheers,

Karen

Hi @Tatiana812

We have 2 lemon trees in our garden as well as lavender, mint and thyme. These plants however were already on the property when we moved in. I tend to them regularly but cannot call them my own growth.

I do have a cherry tomato plant that I have planted from scratch. It has been about 4 months now and the tomatoes have started to grow.

It’s a very fulfilling feeling growing some of your own food, as well as therapeutic.

You can see a brief video of how it is growing nicely HERE🍅

Much love
