oh yummmm @SilvyC !!

Do you remember the shop that you tried poutine??

I’m Canadian and I always get my friends who are visiting to try poutine. My friend from London visited me a few weeks ago and this was our poutine dish from Vancouver! Believe it or not, it is from the food court of the whole seller Costco! It was very good!

I love your country @Shirley First time that I traied poutine was in Vancouver, in a food court too. The poutine in this picture is from a little place, I don’t remember the name was two years ago, in Old Quèbec, in Rue Saint Jean.

Hello @SilvyC ,

Thank you for sharing this photo and helping us discover the food of your country.

I’ve never heard about this dish before, or at least not under such name.

As far as I know, gravy sauce is made of juices of meat, right? In this case, could it be replaced by another sauce or not?

That’s the best way to eat french fries in my opinion, don’t you agree, @SilvyC ? I don’t know how Canadians have come up with this idea to combine gravy with fried potatoes, but it’s brilliant. The only thing that saddens me it that it’s hard to find poutine in Europe, but whenever I see this dish present on the menu of a random restaurant I don’t have second thoughts to order it.

That’s true, but it’s always nice when someone else prepares it for you.

By the way, have you tried french fries with chili con carne, @SilvyC ? It’s super delicious.

Is true!! @KlaudiyaG Chilli is spicy right? Spicy don’t work well for me. I like french fries with cheddar cheese and bacon, is a popular dish here.

Well yes, chili con carne is a spicy dish, but I personally do it sometimes without adding the chilies and that’s because of my daughter. She’s too little for it, but this doesn’t make the dish any less tastier and in fact people can always add a dash of hot sauce if they want.

If are interested, @SilvyC , I’m more than happy to share you my recipe with you. Just please let me know if you want it.

Looks delicious @SilvyC , but strange never heard of this before. Clearly a common dish in Canada, but perhaps it has not gone international so much !!

Yes @Sarath-Ab I think you can find this dish only in Canadá.

Thanks @KlaudiyaG you’re so kind.

Alright then, @SilvyC ! Here we go.

Ingredients:

2 onions

3 red peppers

1 green pepper (you can use more green and less red. I personally prefer red ones more)
4 garlic cloves, crushed (you can add more if you want)

2 tbsp olive oil
1kg of minced meat
200ml red wine
500gr chopped tomatoes in a can
1 tsp ground cumin

1 tsp oregano
1 tsp ground coriander
1 vegetable stock cube
500gr can red kidney beans, rinsed and drained
salt and black pepper to taste
shredded cheese on top, to serve

  1. Peel the onions and then chop them into small pieces. Afterwards remove the seeds from the peppers and cut them roughly.

  2. In a large casserole, heat the olive oil in and fry the onion and garlic until softened. Then add the peppers and the vegetable stock. Cover with a lid and bring to a simmer. When they are soft, cook the meat until browned and use a wooden spoon to breaking down any chunks.

  3. Pour in the red wine and wait for it to boil for 2–3 minutes.

  4. Add the chopped tomatoes as well as the cumin, oregano, coriander, and season well with salt and freshly ground black pepper. Cover once again with the lid and let it cook over a gentle heat for about 50 minutes to 1 hour, stirring occasionally until the mixture is rich and thick.

  5. Add the kidney beans and cook for another 10 minutes, uncovered. You can also add coriander leaves, roughly chopped, but because it’s hard to find coriander where I live, I don’t do it that often.

  6. You can serve the chili over the french fries or rice, it depends on you and do not forget add the shredded cheese.

That’s pretty much it. It sounds harder than it really is. If you decide to prepare it, please send a photo. I would love to hear your feedback.
