Hi there!
This is Flo again. If you have read any other of my posts, you’ll know I am from Costa Rica, a very small but rich country; rich in terms of biodiversity and landscapes. Some of you, may think Costa Rica is all about beaches, but in its only 52 000 km² there so much more.
So, through this post I will take you to Monteverde. It is a place located in Puntarenas, which is one of our seven provinces (it would be like the states of the US). Yes, Puntarenas is in the coast, but Monteverde is not a beach, it is a place located in the mountains, where you can find the beautiful rain forest.
You can take the bus from San José, our capital, to Monteverde, which is about four-hour drive, or you can take the bus from Puntarenas, which I don’t know how long it takes, because I have never taken that bus, but I can imagine is about one hour.
An important advice is that you should be prepared for the rain, wind and sun, all the same day.
Once you arrived there, you have plenty of things to do. If you like adventure, you can go to zip lining, bungee jumping or Tarzan swing.
If you like just to enjoy nature, you can walk around Reserva de Monteverde, Curi Cancha. Also you can go to the hanging bridges or you can go horse riding.
If you are interested in coffee, you can take a tour that will show you how coffee is harvested and also the cacao, where at the end your ride will be a cart pulled by oxen.
You can also take a night tour through the forest, so you can see some animals that only can be seen during the night.
Oh! I almost forget, you can go to Monteverde Factory, which cheese is made, there you can see the process and buy some dairy products.
There are so many places you can stay, from luxurious hotels to the nice concept of Selina; as restaurants where you can go. Don’t miss Taco Taco.
I promise you, you won’t regret going to Monteverde.
If you go, let me know, and if you have already been there, let me know.
With love,
-Flo
