The Hathi Pol gate also known as Hathiya Paur situated in the south-east leads to the Man Mandir Palace. Indeed this is one of the most ornate Gate. This gate was the main entrance to the Man Mandir Palace and was built by Raja Man Singh Tomar. It is the last gate in a series of seven gates. It is so named because of the life-size statue of an elephant (Hathi) that once adorned the gate now only base is available of the elephant.
The gate is made of stone, surmounted by cylindrical minarets and domed cupolas. Carved parapets connect the domes. The workmanship of this huge gate is exemplary and exquisite.
Turquoise tiles were used on this gate. Attractive figures are carved on the stones. The carvings on the main arch and archway and the carvings on the ceiling are special. It is a two-storey gate with beautiful arched stone doors leading to the balcony. And this beautiful balcony is supported by carved stone brackets.
This gate appears to have been the main reception gate. A sloping path connects the Alamgir Gate through the Badal Gate and the Gujari Mahal is located near the Hindola Gate.
This is a major tourist attraction as from the upper floor of this gate along the fortress wall Gwalior Fortress coloured wall which is a land mark stunned the tourists. Through this gate famous Chaturbhuj temple and Gujari Mahal can be accessed.
