Harness the Inner Artist in You

Learning how to paint isn’t just for kids.

I went to my first “paint and sip” painting studio with my mom’s club for a “Ladies Night Out” and it was a blast!

For 2 hours, we left our children and spouses home to go to a place called Pinot’s Palette, a “beginners” painting studio to learn how to paint while drinking our favorite beverages of choice for purchase.

No experience required

Instructions on how to paint was an easy-to-follow along, step-by-step demonstration, that included learning how to properly hold a brush, how to mix acrylic paints, and how to apply the brush onto the canvas.

Majority of us were 1st-time painters with no painting experience at all. It was a great team building or activity to do as a group. We were laughing, encouraging one another, and chatting about our lack of artistic experience.

Wine does help to relax and bring out your creativity

While we had to buy our beverages here, the place allowed us to bring our own food (snacks) to eat while we were painting and drinking.

During our 2 hours of instruction, we did get a 10 minute midway break to stretch our legs. This is when you get your chance to see and compare what your friends are doing, and, of course, compare and see what other groups are doing in the room too.

The inner artist in you

It was interesting to see while we were using the same paint colors and following the painting instructor’s instructions, all of our paintings were slightly different by our interpretations and how we each held our brushes as we painted.

Given that I had no prior painting experience before this night, I felt for a brief moment I was an accomplished artist.

Acrylic paints dry quickly. I was able to take my masterpiece home with me when this class was over.

#LetsGuide: Big Thumbs Up!

Looking for a creative outlet? I highly recommend finding a “paint and sip” painting studio, such as Pinot Palette, in your city or town if you are looking for a fun, memorable activity to do together as a group, such as an Employee Team Building, Ladies Night Out (as I did here with my mom’s club), bachelorette parties, birthday parties, etc. Next group activity idea - finding a place to paint ready-to-paint pottery.

NOTE: If alcohol is available for purchase then note only 21-year-olds and older are only allowed to participate due to what the legal drinking age is in the U.S.

Ever wanted to learn how to paint? Have you ever went to a “paint and sip” painting studio? Please share your experiences (and photos of your art) here.

Great post @KarenVChin

I have no talent at all, but my children get it from here mother

I like to see colorful pictures, but have no idea how to create it…

Thank you for sharing.

@TorM - thanks for your kind words.

You have to find one of these “paint and sip” painting studios in your city and try this out. The other group next to us was an office worker group and they had middle age men among them. They were having fun, laughing - all newbies - just like the rest of us. I think having a glass of “liquid courage” helps a lot. Reduces any anxiety one may have.

Cheers,

Karen

What means “middle age” !!! ???

In fact from time to time I go here with my wife and family.

You can go there and paint on ceramic.

And due to your post I putted it up to the todo list for family activity in the near future.

Between you and me:

Most I like coloring pictures. Here I can totally relax.

Haha @TorM - sorry!

We have paint on ceramic places here too. But the first time, been to this type of place where “by the glass” was available for purchase.

Sounds like you have a future Connect post in the works for us to read. = )

Thanks @HoangDang . Have you experienced one of these “You can be an artist” places? Do you have any of these kinds of businesses in your city?

No excuse please, I think we have the same kind of humor…

But a post about this can be an option. Showing the different abilities within one family

hey @KarenVChin

there is the seed of art, in this painting.

Wine help for sure. I never tried to paint, but on my area (wonder why?) there is an interesting association between wine and arts.

Just check the photo on this place: Azienda Agricola Astoria (it seems that myself and @AntonellaGr are the only ones that added photo on the business)

Haha @TorM - the cool thing about art is art is in the eye of the beholder.

I have a group photo of all the ladies in my mom club (didn’t post it here to maintain their privacy) with all of us holding our “serenity sunset” paintings. It was really interesting to see the similarities and differences of each of our paintings.

And the three I showed side-by-side, this was me in the middle with my two mom club friends. We were laughing and encouraging each other throughout the night.

Cheers,

Karen

P.S.: I did get a response from the owner of the place in my Local Guides review literally two days after I posted it thanking me and my group for showing up that night.

@ErmesT - potential business idea???

The place I went with my group is a franchise or chain. But I have seen “mom and pop” versions of this kind of business in my area.

Karen

It could be @KarenVChin

please check my previous reply after the edit, to see how the business (wine) associate arts with wine

@ErmesT - that is art for sell or display. What I went to is like part art class, part bar (beer, wine, soda, bottled water), part social. The company’s motto (copyrighted) - Paint. Drink. Have Fun.

Does that kind of business exist in your town /region? I could see this kind of business in Venice or Florence, geared to tourist and locals.

Hi @KarenVChin ,

what a lovely post you are sharing today with us. Thank you

All these beautiful colors captured in your photos made my day

I definitely love the brilliant idea of the owner of this shop: enjoying the art while drinking a good glass of wine! WOW, no better way to relax and escape for a moment from our stress and routine.

I know that in Parma there are some spots to learn and enjoy painting and you inspire me to try it one day

Sincere congratulations for your beautiful painting, with this colored and peaceful landscape, it may just put us in a good mood:

How fun @KarenVChin ! My co-workers and I were invited to an employer-sponsored event at a similar place (although we could not partake in the ‘sipping’ portion!) but it was also so much fun and really brought us together as a team (but my masterpiece leaves a lot to be desired).
