The “literacy” is certainly no stranger to our ears, but what is literacy actually and how far does it cover?

I always interpret literacy simply as how every day we can learn from many things, not just from books, and can spread enthusiasm to learn new things. Learning from what I read and see, being able to share meaning and values, recommending useful things is enough to make me happy.
Change The World by Making Everyone literate, by making everyone educated
International Literacy Day (ILD) has been celebrated since 1967 to remind people of the importance of literacy as a human dignity and right, and to advance the literacy agenda towards a more literate and sustainable society (Unesco.org). Despite steady progress worldwide, literacy challenges remain as at least 763 million young people and adults lacked basic literacy skills in 2020. The recent COVID-19 crisis and other crises, such as climate change and conflict, has exacerbated the challenge.

Promoting Literacy for Sustainable and Peaceful Societies
Every year International Literacy Day has a special theme that is adapted to the challenges faced. This year’s International Literacy Day will be celebrated worldwide under the theme, ‘Promoting literacy for a world in transition: Building the foundation for sustainable and peaceful societies’. This is related to Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG4) regarding education and lifelong learning and to reflect on the role of literacy in building a more inclusive, peaceful, just and sustainable society.
One of the real initiatives by the Indonesia National Library is a library based on social inclusion where the entire community can actively participate in supporting the national literacy climate. I wrote an article that was presented at the scientific discussion “Conference on Library and Information Studies”. The topic I brought was social inclusion-based libraries. The title presented is “*The Library development based of social inclusion in Kediri and Jombang, East Java, Indonesia” (here) *The findings that can be used as material for making policies are how the existing system at the regional library can reach all levels of society to be able to improve their quality of life.
