Happy Democracy Day Nigeria 🇳🇬🤍

Democracy Day is the day which marks the end end of military rule and also the day which power was handed over to an elected president.

Today marks 21 years of uninterrupted democracy in Nigeria. After gaining independence from the colonial rule on 1st October 1960, Nigeria has had 9 military coups and a civil war from 1967-1970 which have interrupted the democratic rule.

The end of military rule brought about a new era of regular elections as well as the return of civil liberties, free press and an end to random arrests and torture.

The Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari today used the opportunity to highlight and reflect on our journey as a nation so far on live broadcast at 7am on TV and radio.

HAPPY DEMOCRACY DAY MY FELLOW NIGERIANS!!!

Hi @TusharSuradkar ,

Thanks for your reply!

That’s quite interesting to know about India too. I didn’t know using left hand was regarded as a disrespect there too I thought it was only here. I learnt about the cheap internet not long ago at some meetup here on Connect.

Happy Democracy Day to you and my other Nigerian friends. I’m from Bengkulu, Indonesia. I found out some facts about Nigeria from your post. It’s interesting that Nigeria and Indonesia have many similarities, fact no. 1, 2, 4, and 5.

Hi @And12-X2 ,

Thanks for your reply!

Although there was no celebration here, we had a public holiday as usual.

Hi @AdriansyahPutera ,

Thanks for your reply!

That is pretty much interesting fact to know. Is there no autumn nor winter in the whole of Indonesia :indonesia: or it varies from region to region?

I am still surprised how a lot of these facts are similar especially the use of left hand in giving people things (eg. change, pen, and so on) as a sign of disrespect.

Hi @Nuhuu , as most parts of Indonesia lies very close to the equator line, even some regions lie right on the equator line, so there is no autumn and winter throughout Indonesia. There is snow on the peak of Mt. Jayawijaya in Papua due to its elevation (4.884 m), the mount is also considered the tallest mountain in Oceania region.

Hi @AdriansyahPutera ,

Thanks for your reply!

That is actually interesting, here in Nigeria Chappal Waddi is the highest point at about 2,419 meters, located in Taraba State, North East Nigeria near the border with Cameroon but yet it doesn’t snow there. It doesn’t snow anywhere in West Africa regardless of it’s peak point.
