Hands of Hope: Remembering the 2004 Tsunami

At the edge of South India, there is a monument to the resilience of the human spirit , the Tsunami Memorial Park in Kanyakumari. It is dedicated to the victims of the devastating 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami.

Structure designed by B. Kanagaraj Cangan

The centerpiece of the park is a 16-foot-tall steel monument, it has two hands reaching out in a gesture of both protection and hope. One hand shields against the force of nature, while the other holds a lamp.

The park is a reminder of the power of nature, and a place where visitors can pay their respects to the thousands of people who lost their lives in the tragic events of 2004.

  • The Park is open 24 hours.
  • There is no entrance fee to the park.
  • Photography is allowed at the park.
  • The park is located about 450 meters from Vivekananda Rock ferry

Right @Annaelisa . The devastation of the tsunami was truly horrific. Like Nelson Mandela said - ‘It always seems impossible until it’s done’. We rebuild and we move on.
