@MarcoDavoli 3rd man runner up TRAC participants

Hello highly esteemed local guides, the dedicated TRAC participants, connect and Google in general local,

I always like achievements like this on this board because it’s not just a badge or some perks from Google. It’s the achievement of an initiative and result of a community working together. It’s the evidence of TRAC participants paving the way for a more accessible road network on Google maps. We are very proud to say that we are halfway through our 50k new target. Thank you everyone, fellow moderators and local gudies alike who are scavenging and hunting on Google maps day and night to make sure that the roads are well representing. You might not know the use of this initiative until there is a package to be delivered to your house and the delivery man comes straight through a local road to your doorstep. This initiative will be well appreciated when in an emergency case the ambulance could come straight to your bedroom as a result of an accurate well drawn road on Google maps.

We are still calling out for active participations if anyone is interested. Of course the same question, please how can I join?

  • Kindly fill out this :point_right:t3: Form
  • We also kindly request for a screenshot of your profile photo showing the number of roads you have before participating in TRAC
  • Username on connect to be able to access the Google maps profile and to follow your progress as we go along and perhaps tag you on our posts on connect as well.
  • Geographical location
  • There is a link to our telegram group on the form. Feel free to join or not. It’s optional. Nevertheless it’s very interesting interacting closely outside connect.
  • Meet-up and group discussions are a possibility for instructions and motivations
  • We will plan to publish top 10 highest contributors at the end of the event in September all being well.

We have three charts here which is the top 10 participants who have added 95% of the roads so far. Active members and others

Please Note: This is not a competition it’s a simple campaign. It is aimed at creating awareness on drawing roads. It’s also aimed at improving the maps worldwide. There are no gift or medals at the end of the campaign.it’s a voluntary activity like all local guides activities.

Disclaimer This campaign or post about adding roads, is unofficial and it’s my personal initiative to help improve the maps. Note that any information collected will not be used for any other official purpose outside connect forum.

Look forward to active participation and interactions over this. All questions are highly welcome and we are open to improving and editing this campaign for good.

Side Comments

@ErmesT was the top man for a good while and then @NareshDarji took over. Now it’s @Lukas_1 the number one road champion. For a good while @LovePathak28 and I were the local champions until local guides like @HsRawal @Rakshi2 and we soon had to dig deeper otherwise we will be left behind.

There is a healthy competitive spirt between @jayasimha78 @OssianLore and @mdjhfc if you are participating that’s great. We are really having fun together on the telegram group especially. If you are not participating then you are not, that’s a pity !!! Need to go now drawing roads…

Please note that we have reached our target and the campaign is closed for 2023. (12th Sept 2023)

We’re cruising right along @SholaIB ! I’m stoked that I’ve almost doubled my initial goal of 77 roads. Now, if only my pending edits would start clearing out, I could jump up a notch or two on the chart.

Hello @JustJake ,

I also had the same problem in the beginning. My initial edits took a lot of time, and I felt extremely frustrated. Fortunately, I found a lot of support and help in the group, and gradually, the approvals for my edits started coming in faster and faster. I believe, but it’s just my idea, that the system gives you scores to evaluate your work. The more accurate you are, the more the system trusts you. Again, it’s just my impression. You’ll see that if you keep going, you’ll start to have a lot of satisfaction.

Take care and happy mapping

Once again, it’s great being part of this awesome movement created by @SholaIB

Everyone joining forces to make the map better is always satisfying to watch.

50k always seemed to be so far away and now it’s in our reach in a few months. Right now some updates came in and I’m over 5000 added roads now. Honestly it’s so so great to map with you all you have no idea.

Thanks to everyone on the TRAC group and on connect supporting us on this journey.

Take care guys!

Well done @SholaIB and everyone contributing, I’m sure our local maps are all the richer for our input :slightly_smiling_face:

And @Lukas_1 that road total is utterly obscene haha. How on earth did you get 4,000 roads added/approved in the space of one month? I’m making around 1,000 edits per month and barely scraping a couple of hundred past our strict overlords, the all powerful Edit Reviewers lol Please share your secret… do you have friends in human resources or maybe dating the algorithm or something? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Congratulations for the 25 K ROADS LANDMARK…& Thank you for organising this TRAC Mission.

Unfortunately, my “Road Counter” was stuck at 152 for quite some time… however, today it was showing 159 earlier & now it is 179.

Let us all try for our great Target…

Best wishes for all your success…

I usually spend about 4-8 hours adding roads a day now, and get about 200-600 edits a day :slightly_smiling_face: . With these numbers, theres about 150-230 approvals a day and it goes quick from there on out!

Everyone can do it, but it’s just about spending a lot of time  .

If I were to date someone from HR, I’d surely be getting twice as much approvals  .

Thank you and good luck mapping!

Hello @OssianLore

That’s a very hilarious one from you. The response is even more so dating the HR  . Anyways neither of both is going to work. Get to work and draw roads. Thank you kindly for all your support on TRAC campaign.

@TravellerG good you back in course again. You just have to get used to late updates delayed approval etc. We don’t mind that,we just keep adding and updates and approval will catch up later. Thank you for coming back and supporting us.

@NareshDarji I hardly know what to say to you. You are one of the top men on this. Kudos kudos kudos to a professional

Happy connect @7

@Lukas_1 HOW MANY edits per day?! :astonished: Good lord, you must get up very early in the morning lol

Seriously though, that is an amazing amount of work and time improving the map product. Seeing that level of work really makes me miss the Regional Lead program.

People who make massive, and accurate (given your approval rate) and meaningful contributions to the coverage of the road and path network and assigning all the data that needs to go with that (street names, building addresses, streetview data, accessibility data, and so on) that make all the actual features of the map actually function deserve to have that contribution recognised.

People like you, and many other contributors here deserve that level of trust/respect that came along with being a Regional Lead, like being trusted to edit local road/path networks without the need to be reviewed, and being trusted to review other contributors edits.

Although to be honest, with the amount of time you personally are devoting each day to mapping, you deserve a salary

Anyway, I’ve strayed too far from my point now, that point being a bit of a pat on the back for you and everyone else helping to make the map work.

Well done everyone :slightly_smiling_face:
