I along with my family reached by road on 6th October 2019 in Gwalior and stayed for two days, to enjoy the historical heritage of Gwalior. And in fact, my family enjoyed it very much while walking in this ancient fort, a lot of visit to all the monuments is very nice.

Gwalior fort was the most important fort of central India. Due to its strategic location and being a hill fort which was quite impregnable, all the kings attacked it to prove their suzerainty over it. It was controlled by Huns, Pritihara, Bhoja, Kachhpaghat, Tomars, Sultans of Dehli, Altumish, Sikandar Lodhi, Babur, Sher Shah Suri, Hemu, Akbar, Jahangir, Shah Jahan, Aurangzeb, Shinde, etc. were prominent.

Raja Man Singh Tomar who retained his dominion over this fort for nearly 30 years. He was maintaining animosity and sometimes allies with Delhi Sultanate. Who was an ardent devotee of architecture and music. Tansen who was a great composer of Dhrupad Gharana and was among the Navratnas of Maan Sing Tomar. Man Mandir Palace and Gujari Mahal are excellent examples of architecture. Raja Man Singh was the son of Raja Kalyanmall Rajput as Tomar got the control in 1398 AD. Sikandar Lodhi had to make tireless efforts due to his raiding war skills. In 1516 heroism was attained in the battle with Ibrahim Lodhi. Mansingh’s eight Rajput queens and Mriganayani who was a very beautiful and brave Gujari queen also joined Maan Sing in the wars.

Urvahi gate was added by Altumish, Sher Shah’s palaces were renovated by Mughals and known as Jahangir Mahal and Shahjahan Mahal. Karan Mahal, Eighty pillared stepwell, Teli Ka Mandir, Sas Bahu Temple, Gurudwara Data Bandi Chhod, Haathi Pol, Badal Pol, Rock cut Jain images, Chaturbhuj Temple which has an inscription bears the oldest record of Zero, Man Mandir Palace, Gujari Mahal, etc are the major ancient monuments situated in this fort. As this fort was admired by Mughal Dynasty founder Babur in very special manner he said it’s a pearl among the fortresses of Hind and also Gibraltar of India.

Gwalior Fort remain open for the tourists all the days from 9 am to 5 pm. Entry fee is nominal and affordable. Gujari Mahal now an Archaeological Museum remain closed on Mondays. By Car it can be accessed from Urvahi gate and from Alamgir Gate through ramp also. It offers panoramic views of Township from its viewing points close to the Elephant Gate and from top of the Urvahi gate. It’s a fort which is an ancient heritage attraction for history buffs, wanderes, art and architecture lovers, soul seekers, photographers, music lovers as music fest is held in November and December Tansen Sangeet Sammelan, Bandi Chhor Divas at Gurudwara are major attractions.

This is a nice :ok_hand: quick overview of the fort @rizbab28

Though it is not clear why it is called Gibraltor of India :india: , just because some king said?

What is the meaning?
