Gunung Kawi Temple or Tebing Kawi Temple is an archaeological site that is protected in Bali. Located in Pakerisan River, Penaka Hamlet, Tampaksiring Village, Tampaksiring District, Gianyar Regency, Bali Province, Indonesia.
This place is an amazing site, located among terraced rice fields consisting of 10 temples carved on a sandstone cliff wall.
The estimated Gunung Kawi Cliff Temple has been built since the 11th century AD, during the Udayana dynasty (Warmadewa). The construction of this temple is estimated to begin during the reign of King Sri Haji Paduka Dharmawangsa Marakata Pangkaja Stanattunggadewa (944-948 Saka / 1025-1049 AD) and began in the reign of King Anak Wungsu (971-999 Saka / 1049-1080 AD).
