Guimarães trip I organised a week ago. Despite the imperfect weather conditions I still enjoyed the view of the city.
Hi, @ShpytkoOleh , welcome to Connect, and sorry for responding so late.
Your photos are indeed beautiful and I am curious to know more about them.
However I see that no one responded till now, most probably because of the lack of information.
We are a worldwide community of Local Guides, and just dropping a few words and some beautiful photos will make your post absolutely not appealing.
What about to edit your post, adding some links in Google Maps of the places you are showing, and tell us your own experience (please, not contents copied from the web) of that places.
I am very curious about the first photo. What does it mean that “Portugal was born in there”?
I could raise the same question for all your posts
Hello, that was my first post within this community, so it was done as a check demo. I found that not every post here has a detailed description, so I created a similar one to understand how everything may work.
Mostly I am expressing my opinion about places in Google reviews on my account, where it’s described quite better and more detailed.
Photo 1. A medieval tower in the city centre. Portugal was born here refers to the start point of the Portuguese history, when Portugal became an independent state. It happened in Guimarães, só the city is considered to be a cradle of Portuguese history.
- Palace of Duques de Bragança. Located nearby the castle this palace was used by royal family until they moved to Vila Viçosa (Alentejo region).
- Castle of Guimarães. It’s a medieval castle that lost its importance in the 17th century. In the 19th century there was a discussion about the possibility to demolish it and use its stones for the local roads. The idea was never realised.
- Teleférico de Guimarães. A tourist attraction and a public transport. 1.7 km length, 400 meters up. 10 EUR price - there and back (bargains for local citizens). Destination - Penha mountain, where are located a church, a chapel, 2 small caves, a viewpoint of Guimarães etc.
