Guateque is the first town of Boyacá that is located in the Tenza valley while travelling from Bogotá. Guateque offers excellent views of the valley and the climate in this part of Boyacá is as mild as it gets. This is related much to the elevation though, Guateque is located just about 1900 meters above sea level compared to the towns from the Cundiboyacense Plateau.
Guateque can be considered the gateway to the beautiful Tenza valley region, offering connectivity to the other small towns such Garagoa, Tenza, Sutatenza, Somondoco, Chivor, Almeida and Guyatá. Guateque is also the capital of Eastern Boyacá province.
Guateque is located about 3 hours from Bogotá, and another 3 hours away from the Boyacá capital of Tunja.
