Rajgir has been the favourite place of meditation for Buddha and Mahavira. And both of them have also practiced in Venu Vana while staying there. Mahatma Buddha was very fond of Griddha Kuta mountain. He said that
“I am Loknath, the master of medicine, the protector of all living beings. Knowing that people are ignorant and are away from religion and are involved in sensual pleasures, I always preach proper knowledge while residing on Griddhakuta”. This is mentioned on a tablet I found near Griddha Kuta mountain.
In ancient times, in the capital of Magadha, Rajgir, there was a close relationship between Tathagata i.e. Mahatma Buddha, who knew the truth and lived the truth, and Griddhakuta Mountain and this mountain was his favorite meditation place. According to Saddharma Pundarika, Lord Buddha preached to the monks on this mountain during his lifetime. He used to sit on Griddhakuta. This mountain can be easily reached by trekking on the hill or going up by the ropeway. This is the main Buddhist pilgrimage of Rajgir as it’s significantly important Buddhist religious site.
