I started sharing on Google Maps about two years ago. I had no idea about the Local Guides Connect event until I was invited. I was just enjoying the experience of writing about my experiences and seeing the replies from the owners and managers of the places I visited, and the many people who I helped who thanked me or liked my posts or asked questions.
I enjoy a good coffee. My favourite coffee is what I call a “Weak Cappuccino.” Having a Weak Cappuccino means that I can have a few Weak Cappuccinos without feeling guilty or without having too much coffee. At places that I don’t frequent or if I get a waiter or waitress who I don’t know, I explain the Weak Cappuccino. It’s a single shot in a big cup. Single Shot. Then top up with hot water. Then add froth on top. The froth should be the right thickness as if someone had a double shot in a big cup and then froth on top. And it shouldn’t be a latte, ie a single shot and then just hot or frothy milk.
Not too many places can make my "Weak Cappuccino:, but when I find them, I love them. My favourite coffee shops in Cape Town are Cafe Neo in Mouille Point (Sea Point) and Folk Coffee Anthropology in the City.
Cafe Neo is my favourite place for breakfast meetings and sometimes I spend the whole day there. Folk Coffee if I’m in town, just to pop in for their Superfood Smoothie, or if I have time to eat their lovely Croissants, Date Balls and of-course, the best coffee in Cape Town. And they both know how to make my Weak Cappuccino. And at Folk Coffee, one feels like one is sitting in one’s living room or library, and being served by incredibly friendly people.
I usually only write about the five star places I go to. I don’t like to run places down, and as I am an entrepreneur, if I have a bad experience, I usually ask for the manager or owner and explain my problem to them. Then I leave it till next time I’m there and see if they have improved.
And if a new place opens, I always go for coffee. Never for a meal first time round, and I see how they treat me.
