Graffitis spotted on my last NYC trip

Heya folks, below are some of the graffitis I spotted on my last trip to New York on December-January 2020 for new years. You could say I have sorta accidentally made this a thing to hunt for, altho i mostly look for Kobras. Feel free to share the ones you’ve spotted on places you’ve travelled or local area!

All of these are so cool, @martygm ! I love how the graffiti and public art scene is always changing in New York! My favorites you posted were the one of David Bowie and King Kong!

It looks like you visit New York several times a year. What are your favorite off-the-beaten-path tourist spots?

@JordanSB

I dooo love NY I visit (or atleast try to) twice a year.

Off the path tourist spots:

Strand Bookstore - Im a bookworm

Forbidden Planet - for the comics

Search & Destroy - for the band T-shirts

House of Yes in Brooklyn - Because why not

Stonewall Inn - for the drag shows -lgbt friendly spot

Industry bar - for the drag shows - lgbt friendly spot

The Cubbyhole - for the 5 dollar margatritas -lgbt friendly spot

Beetle house- I am a spooky dark being so I like spooky drinks

Westlight in Brooklyn - for the best selfies in a skyline (drinks are kinda pricey tho)

Point Break NYC - for the shrimp tacos!

Museum of Sex – not exactly off tourist path but they get creative every year

Harlem hop - for the fried calamari

Mother burger - that i recently found out is no longer a normal burger joint but rather a vegan one. Still good regardless

Also I cannot leave NYC without eating as many bodega grilled cheese sandwiches and dollar pizzas as i can ( gym is painfull when i get back home :sleepy: )

Either ways these spots are usually pretty steady even tho I always try to check something different every time which I achieve effortlessly

Hi @martygm ,

These are so cool! I think it makes the walls even prettier than they are. I bet new years was amazing there with all the lights? I’ve only seen it on photographs, so NYC is at the top of my list. I can’t wait to experience it myself. How did you know where all these street arts are, or did you just stumble upon them?

Thanks! :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi @DanniS lights are pretty amazing but its COLLLD. I mean i’m from the caribbean so a little cold for a few days is not bad but yeah… its a sharp cold lol. Either ways I only knew where 1 of the Kobra’s was located in the city, the other was a coincidense that i was in Jersey that weekend. (the Bowie one is near Downtown Jersey) so I told my friend to take me there. I follow Kobra on Instagram is how I found out the Bowie one was there. The rest of the street art I stumbled upon on my way somewhere. Thats always the fun part for me.

Thanks for your reply! I saw in your previous comment you had a list with cool spots to visit. I’d absolutely love it if you share photos of places to go to. I think that would be really liked here among the Local Guides and I would love to try some Vegan stuff. :slightly_smiling_face:

LOVE the sky-high vertical pieces of street art @martygm . During my past visits to New York (quite a few years ago, maybe 2014 or 2015), it seemed like there was not much Street Art depending on where I visited. Seeing these photos make me excited about my next opportunity to go to New York as I love the street art scene.

I’m a big street art enthusiast myself :slightly_smiling_face: Kobra is one of my favorite mural painters and we’ve got at least one of his artwork in Lodz, Poland. Thank you for sharing @martygm If you like to get to know more about street art, you can check my posts on Connect about it. :slightly_smiling_face:

Greeting from Poland
