I want to use Google Street View to create 360° photos because the tool is so good. I took some good images with it but from the one to the other moment there occured a bug:
Even though I’m not moving my phone the app thinks I’m moving it and adjusts (see Video example). I’m taking the same picture again and again because the app moves all a slight bit. This bug leads to very bad pictures. I already tried to restart my phone but I have no idea how I could fix this. Help is appreciated
When I used the Streetview app to capture 360 shots and experienced such drifting I decided to try moving from orange dot to the next in revers order. Turning left rather than right.
It’s probably the sensors in your phone causing this.
Also, this can happen if you don’t proceed in a fluid movement.
Unfortunately that doesn’t help
It’s drifting the same regardless how much or where I move my phone. I go as fast as possible from one to the next dot and hold it still so it can take a sharp picture but the drifting only allows me to make a 300° pic rather than 360°. Also the pics above and below head level are bugged with this.
Do you maybe know which sensor is used for determining where I look and how much I move? Then I could look for specific help for my device.
It would be really helpful if you would use the tagging tool when replying to someone here on Connect. Type @ followed by the username. Type slowly. Then we get an e-mail notification and you are more likely to get a prompt reply.
I think it’s the accelerometers. I’m sorry for not being able to help you any further.
Hopefully others will step in and share more tips, but it could be your device that is causing the problem.
I believe this symptom is caused by the following reasons:
・The Street View app seems to adjust the zero-in of the accelerometer of the smartphone when the first photo is taken.
・The app understands the value observed by the accelerometer when the first photo is taken as “resting”.
・If you gradually swing the camera to the right and align it with the orange dot, the app will adjust the state as “the camera is stationary”, so when the camera is really stationary, “the camera is swinging to the left.” In other words, the captured image will flow to the right.
So, in order to make sure the camera is stationary when you take the first shot, retake the first shot many times.
If, after taking the first shot, the shot image continues to appear in about the same location after 5 seconds, it’s probably okay.
