I’m new to this whole LGC thing, and to be honest it seems about as convoluted as Google Maps does. Or maybe I’m just not that bright. Definite possibility there. But, I’m just a bit curious about something. Well, numerous somethings, but this one in particular. I was recently in Kona, Hawaii and dined at a restaurant there, and wanted to leave a review. But, even though it’s been there since 2007, it does not exist on Google Maps. You can find it on every other site, but not Google Maps. Seemed surprising to me, since Google seems a bit more complete than most. So, I figured I’d just add the business. Did the whole Add a Business ticket, filled in ALL of the information, and sent it in. Immediately it says Google couldn’t verify the edit. Anyone else have this issue?
Later, when I was doing reviews for business around the restaurant, after I posted one, all of a sudden I saw the restaurant on the Maps. Clicked on it but it doesn’t bring up the normal “page.” Just the name and the few buttons: Directions Save Nearby etc… Well, I tried to save it, but wouldn’t bring up any of my folders. Saved it to a new folder. But when I went to that folder, and then click on it, it takes me to the middle of the South Atlantic Ocean.
Pretty obvious that Google doesn’t actually have a staff you can contact about anything, so I’m just wondering if anyone can shed some light on this. Frankly, it’s just so bizarre that it’s driving me batty. Adding some screen shots. The business is The Fish Hopper.

Hi, @ScroogeOpus
You can read this thread why an edit is pending or not applied: Why-is-my-edit-status-Pending-or-Not-Applied
Your case for me is quite strange. Did you search the restaurant by zoming in/out on the screen, or type the name of the restaurant? Sometimes a place not shown when we zooming in/out in a certain area, but it shown when we type its name. Normal error/glitch/something.
And if you don’t mind could you share the link of the restaurant on Google Maps? Because when I type “The Fish Hopper” it keeps bring me to other restaurant in America not Hawaii.
In my experience, when we click on a place that eventually bring us to a strange place (like in the middle of the sea), it means the place/listing is not created yet in Maps.
Imho, there are reasons why a business place is not listed in Maps. One of the reason is the owner does not want their business to be listed.
Hi @ScroogeOpus
I noticed the byline: Reviews on OpenTable. This might indicate that the place has been unsuccessfully imported from another database or considered spam at some point. Or it could be a pin from when Maps users had a lot more freedom to add places and create all the categories as they please. And this looks like one that was not created properly. The way to deal with them is to provide feedback and suggest the pin be removed or converted into a normal editable pin. Please make sure to include the link to the place if you get the chance.
The reason you can not add the business properly is that this incomplete already pin exists.
I learned the hard way that when you see such artifacts on the Map it is not worth it to go crazy. In this case, it is not in your head but caused by bad data in the database!
Letting go and leaving issues to others can often be the best solution compared to going nuts. Thanks for reporting this, though.
I was not able to find it. Then I would happily have provided the needed feedback to fix it. So if you see it again, please share the URL (or click share and copy the link should the share button be shown). And you can use these Steps to send feedback.
Cheers
Morten
Thanks for the reply iorikun301,
Yes, I’ve had the same issues of being transported straight to the San Francisco restaurant of the same name. Usually Google is very good about finding a place even if it’s nowhere near you. And I didn’t realize businesses could have such autonomy over their Google information as to remain off the grid, as it were. But, then again, I don’t really know much.
Here is the link I’ve found that shows the business there.

Thanks for the reply Morten,
I appreciate the advice. For me it’s like hearing a snippet of a song, or hearing a quote from a movie, and trying to figure out where it came from. I know, need to let it go. In the grand scheme of things it’s irrelevant. Yes, when it has popped up it has OpenTable connected with it, and that’s the only part that actually works.
I used the share button and here’s the link:

I think I’ll take your advice and be like Else, and just Let It Go!
None of the two links work on my android phone, so mayby the incomplete pin was successfully removed.
Cheers
