It’s not clear from your post whether this is an idea or a suggestion.
For the former, please re-position your post to the ideas section.
If that’s a suggestion, the Connect platform is doing that already. People are coming together with interest in Maps (or photography/travel/food & drinks etc.) & socializing through meetups.
Additionally, Maps provides an option to share reviews or photos on Facebook or Twitter. That way one can create further links with the community.
