Google Maps review not visible

Hello Community

Long time no hear - I hope all of you and your loved ones are still healthy!

Today you may help me to understand why a review of mine is not showed for anybody else than me an the owner of the place I did the reviwe about.

The shared link to my review is: https://goo.gl/maps/ErWRvHw34qn7HLB66

(but it only works for me aslong it is not live)

Sometimes my reviews contains links to a detailed review at my foodblog - sometimes I also use links to YouTube videos regardingt places or dishes.

Until today I did not receive anny comment from Google regarding the visibility or restrictions pointing on my Google Maps contributions.

I am now at a bit of a loss as to what the problem is and what I can do so that others can also see my review.

It would be really great if you could support me in finding the cause.

Thank you in advance.

Cheers,
Erik

Culinary greeting from Copenhagen, @ErikSeidel .

You mentioned adding links to YouTube and longer versions of your reviews. Both are problematic. Links are simply not allowed in reviews - proabably to discouraged spammers. If some of your text can be found elsewhere then Google will find it and take your review down (hide it) because of plagiarism. Also, if you wrote both and you own the text.

I can confirm from your public profile that you have added 438 reviews and only 393 of them are public.

Google has automatic filters that hide your reviews so only you can see them. This can happen when some of your reviews violate the guidelines, including:
Prohibited and Restricted Content
Format Specific Criteria (See under Text Reviews and Captions)

Read about typical review guideline violations here.

If you are on a Desktop use this link to Count your hidden contributions. From a mobile device use this link.

If you need to identify which of your reviews are hidden please see this useful tip by my friend @C_T.

Currently, your issue might not be your fault. Read: Known issue: Unpublished reviews and photos on Google Maps. And, please make a reply there and request your account also be investigated.

Best of luck
Morten

Thank you for your prompt answer.

It seems that I have to invest some time to find out how it is with the respective reviews. It’s a pity, I think Google should do that for me and provide me with a report on a regular basis that also shows what has to be done with the individual reviews so that they become visible.

I prefer to invest my time in making experiences and reflecting them to the community, rather than worrying about display and interpretation questions…

Have a good time - stay healthy!

I do agree, @ErikSeidel .

But the AI is probably not trained to provide such feedback and I guess Google does everything possible not to help the spammers. But those are bad excuses in my opinion.

Today I took me the time to identify my contributions which got the private-state without any hint from Google in my direction mentioning that.

  • In total I loaded up 6572 pictures & Videos - 211 are not visible to the community.
  • In total I did 438 reviews - 45 are not visible to the community.

Before I try to think about the not shown pictures, I started to figuring out why those reviews are not shown - if I am able to fix those, the amount of not visible photos will shrink as well - hopefully.

We all take a lot of unpaid time to share our experiences with the world and help Google Maps to become more and more complete and accurate - but this should not be a one-way street.

In principle, I think it would be appropriate and fair of Google if we as local guides were informed directly when posting a review if something leads to our reviews not being visible to the community and what to do to fix that.

One thing f.e. I can’t understand is that even links to videos on Google’s YouTube not work - especially when videos are longer than 30 seconds, this is the best way to point to those - it stays "in-House @Anonymoususer1 ", so to speak.

Here two samples where I can not find any issue which kicks those review to private.

Review Text:

“Some time ago I visited with a good Bangkok friend the El Gaucho Bangkok - the “branch” not far from the Grand Mercure ASOKE…right next to Terminal 21. The atmosphere of the restaurant was very inviting and authentic, you felt right at home and almost like in a Argentina steakhouse. The furnishings are very attractive and invite you to linger even beyond the good steak.

The service was professional and courteous from the welcome to the farewell. The staff were always very attentive, but by no means intrusive - and it was immediately obvious that the service staff were also real meat lovers. Of course, this makes the selection and advice on the “right slice of meat” even more enjoyable. We started this evening with a very tasty carpaccio - but to be more precise with the warm bread, baked garlic, herb butter and a salsa that is always served in advance, which is unparalleled in freshness and taste. The carpaccio was - as it should be - quite simply arranged, the fine meat should be the focus here - it was well tempered and had an excellent taste of its own - a real treat right at the beginning. We started each with a beer, on the one hand with a Japanese Asahi and on the other hand with a freshly tapped Heineken. Even if the Heineken from the bottle has a good reputation, the freshly tapped one has more than a nose length taste advantage. In the main course, my company tryed a grilled vegetable skewer and a portion of lamb chops.

The lamb was of the highest quality and grilled to the point - it had a lot of roasting aromas and was nevertheless juicy, a real pleasure. After the consultation and presentation, I had decided for the EL Gaucho Ribeye on the bone (USDA Prime quality) with about one kilo weight and that evening I got one of the best steaks I was allowed to enjoy so far. The Ribeye had exactly the ordered cooking degree, it was finely memorized, soft as butter, grilled sharply on the outside and had a uniquely round taste - a real dream - a big compliment to the “maestro de la barbacoa”! In addition, I had truffled mashed potatoes, which tasted completely balanced and besides the fine truffle aroma had a great potato taste of its own - this “side dish” was a real highlight itself. At the end we indulged in a beguiling Crema de Caramelo, a poem of a dessert and in this quality certainly hard to find. In addition, there were crêpes with caramel and vanilla ice cream - a really fitting combination. Especially worth mentioning in the EL Gaucho is the in-house liqueur - a Belvedere Vodka with a pinch of Monin Caramel which - even if it is sweet - doesn’t cause any headaches the next day, even if it wasn’t just one…

It is important that both the mixture and the glasses have to be ice-cooled - this is the only way to make the experience unique! As soon as the vodka “leaves” the tongue, a grandiose caramel aroma unfolds - very tasty and memorable! The “Butcher Shop” on the lower floor of the EL Gaucho also offers the perfect opportunity to take proper steaks with you for the in-house barbecue - an excellent idea that would certainly also be appreciated in Germany. As far as I know, an EL Gaucho in Germany, namely in Hamburg, has been opened in the meantime - I would be happy for the Hanseatic city.

As I had already visited most of the steak houses there an EL Gaucho would be another highlight for that city. The El Gaucho in Bangkok was a stroke of luck all along - at first it seems high priced, it is - but for the quality & freshness of the products and the great service this is also justified. A clear recommendation to visit this restaurant if you nearby - especially if you are a meat lover, but also if you are looking for a nice and innovative bar. In the meantime, there was also a steamed asparagus mix with freshly planed parmesan, i.e. both white and green asparagus, nicely crunchy and thus an excellent texture as a starter in the Bangkok EL Gaucho - you should definitely try it! Feel free to follow my Google Maps profile, check out my other reviews and be sure to visit foodadvisorblog!”

At some point I decided to turn the tables. Normally people share their bad experiences with the whole world and the good ones only with close friends - I wanted to break this circle and reverse the logic.

But if positive experiences are ultimately interpreted as advertising - be it because I praised a steak too enthusiastically or because I mention a brand name so that the community members also find exactly what I wrote about, then the whole thing turns into a negative for me because my commitment is undermined or not recognised by Google as a positive contribution.

I started my Google Maps account in autumn 2018 and have received 40 million explicit views for my reviews, pictures & videos in the last 3 years - which fills me with pride.

Google constantly informs me proactively about this and many other scores - there should be more when it comes to visibility tips, right?

Basically, Google should offer a service for this - if we already pick out the links, there should be the possibility that you can send them to Google and then promptly Google find out why which post / which image or video is not displayed - that would be a real WIN (Google) / WIN (author) / WIN (The Community) situation.

Hope dies last, but as we all know, it does die at some point…

So far from Berlin, stay healthy – cheers,

Erik

Wow what a long post, @ErikSeidel .

I still agree that is would be respectful and helpful if Google would care to notify us when contributions go private.

I believe I shared the trick to make a non - essential edit to the text and right after check if it went public. Adding an extra space will prompt the spam filter to check again.

Have you tried this with the reviews in question?

Cheers

Thank you for that hint - yes, I did that to those mentioned reviews - also with another contribution containing an URL, but it did not changed the behaviour.

I will successively try to bring the affected reviews live in the next 2 weeks.

If I find the time, I will of course also reflect on my experiences so that other guides can benefit from them.

Somehow I’m not getting anywhere and I’m on the verge of resignation.
I have identified all reviews and pictures with your instructions that are not displayed.
Then I took out links and brand names - although it will surely still be allowed to call hotels by their names, for example…

…but it all didn’t help.

Today I wrote a new review of a Bangkok hotel, I added 30 images to the post - result, Google only takes 14 of the 30 images and again does not show the post.
In addition, I uploaded about 90 more pictures independently of the hotel review - I have not yet looked at what Google displays.
If this continues, I will lose the desire to provide Google with cost-neutral, high-quality content.

Here are the English sentences as I used them for the review - Morten, do you see any reason why the review should not be displayed?

“Bangkok is worth a trip, and not just - as they say - for one night. The Sofitel Sukhumvit has become a permanent fixture and a must-visit for me - hospitality is still writ large in this hotel! Our last visit was definitely one of our highlights in Bangkok, apart from the excellent location of the hotel, both the interior and the staff exude a real holiday feeling throughout. Here, guests’ wishes are read from their lips and genuine service is a priority. The management has a knack for balancing the needs of the very different guests - the stay at the Sofitel Sukhumvit was a memorable experience in every case. Then there are the advantages of the Club Millésime and the BELGA with its exceptional cuisine by Bangkok standards. The Belgian specialities paired with an almost endless supply of first-class beers is unparalleled - especially if you then also visit the rooftop bar with its unique view. From me, a very clear recommendation for a visit to this hotel, which, despite its five stars, also has affordable offers. I’d love for you to follow my Google Maps profile and check out my other reviews, and don’t forget to check out foodadvisorblog!”

So much from Berlin - until it’s clear that I’m not continuing to do all this work for nothing, I won’t be writing any more reviews for GM for the time being, but for my blog instead… what a pity, really.

Stay healthy Morten!
Yours,
Erik
