My points in Google maps are decreasing

  1. Do the points gets decreased if that contribution is a year old? Say I uploaded a photo on Jan 2019 and got 5 points on Jan 2020 do that 5 points get decreased?
  2. If some photos are duplicate upload than does that point get decreased?

To respond to your questions:

  1. It doesn’t matter if a contribution is old, your contribution will give you points if it is legitimate
  2. If your photos violate our Local Guides program rules, Local Guides community policy, and Maps user contributed content policy, the photos will be removed. This includes duplicate photos of course.

I deeply suggest you to check your contribution immediately, because there are tons of photos that need to be removed ASAP.

What not to share

  • Do not upload duplicate photos. Sharing the same photo more than once on one location or across multiple locations is a violation of our rules and policies and may result in your removal from the program.
  • Avoid sharing selfies and group photos. These photos don’t help to represent the location, so save them for a different platform.
  • Avoid sharing low quality photos. Dark and blurry photos, or photos with low resolution don’t give helpful information about the location and may be removed.

Other than above solution of not adhering to policy?

My contributions are down to 7000 from >9000 and the level points from >25000 to 24000.

Are you able to understand which kind of contributions are affecting your loss of points?

All my contributions are apparently still available, but points have decreased nonetheless.

Seems to be an issue with the counter.

Google got new bugs and errors every other day :laughing:

This is weird, because it means you only lost half a point per contribution :grin:

Hi @fuzzi_68 ,

Usually a drop of point is linked to a loss of contributions (photos, reviews, answers, etc.). We would need more information in order to better identify the situation. A rough estimation according to the information you can find in this page, seems to prove that your number of contributions and your points match. Can you confirm that none of your contribution is missing?

Hi @Giu_DiB

Like it was suspected already yesterday, the whole story appears to be a technical issue with the counter - with no connection to ‘deleted’ or ‘lost’ contributions.

As of now, my points are back to 18-thousand-something just like three days ago, after a short drop to 17-thousand-under-twohoundred yesterday.

Furthermore, at least picture and review count never decreased. No idea about fact checks and so on.

My points got back as well.

In the last two days, my “Answers” count has dropped by 20-30 each day. None of my other contribution counts have dropped, only answers. What’s up with this?
