Google Maps Photo Uploads Counting Against Google Drive Quota

Dear Local Guides,

I am hoping rather than the community, Google Maps can address this issue.

I’ve searched for a topic about this but I can’t seem to find anyone else with the same issue, which is difficult for me to believe.

I have recently been informed by Gmail that my account has run out of storage space. When I looked at my account Dashboard, it says 11+ out of my 15GB quota was used for Photos. I thought this was strange because I don’t have any photos uploaded/backed up into this account. After dissecting the Photos, it appears that every photo “contributed” (uploaded) in Google Maps counts towards your quota. I tried to delete some photos so that I could begin to use Gmail again, but a consequence to this is that my photo no longer on Google Maps anymore. My points were also reduced accordingly.

I have always been very active in Google Maps but this certainly does not encourage me to continue as I cannot access my emails anymore.

Is Google Maps aware of this issue? Is there any discussion to not punish Local Guides for their contributions?

Would really like to hear more about this.

Cheers

Chris

Hi @cpmander ,

Please have a look at @StephenAbraham 's post as he explained perfectly how to recover storage space. Once you have done that, your photo storage will come back to 0 gigas.

See you around
