Yet another problem: unlike a vast majority of user-uploaded selected Panoramio photos, the photos I see in Google Maps Photos layer are most likely to be irrelevant from the location’s point of view, contain people etc.
For example, in Campeche, Florianópolis, SC, Brazil, a lot of photos marked “hotel” or “pousada” show the island of Campeche seen from Campeche beach, i. e. actually the same thing repeated many times. Not the place, after which the photo is named. Fully disconnected from the location.
This is MUCH less useful that the old Panoramio photo layer, which helped to learn more about the area.
In fact, there’s a reason to press the “report a problem” button on many photos mapped in our area, and choose the option “Content is not relevant to this location”.
Family photos demonstrated globally instead of selected Panoramio photos are just a kind of profanation of what the photo layer used to be.
