Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

Since what you have suggested is already exist on Google Maps I am going to move your idea to the How-tos section because it fits better there.

As @mwreuter has mentioned, Google Maps Go is available for download.

Regarding the GPS positioning, I’ll refer you tho this article which explain what you can do to improve the accuracy.
