Hi @JamGregory
Sorry to hear you’re facing the same issue as myself, there’s quite a few of us on here waiting for a response from a Google moderator - fingers crossed this happens soon!
Hi @JamGregory

Thanks @PaulPavlinovich
Waiting for @MashaPS /team to review and advise.
Is there anyone else that can help follow up?
Also having this issue after having saved a business to the “want to go” list then removing it later. Their updates appear in the ‘Following’ section of the Updates tab but not in the ‘Following’ list in the Saved tab. That business, nor any other, does not show a ‘Follow’ button to follow or unfollow.
This has persisted since at least my previous phone (Pixel 4 XL on Android 11 then Android 12) and current phone (Pixel 6 Pro). App version is 11.17.1. I’ve also cleared the data from the app which basically just resets everything to the initial setup of the Maps app and then eventually restores user data from the account including the Contribute and Updates tabs. Willing to troubleshoot further or provide additional data to fix this.
Sorry to hear you’ve experienced the issue like the rest of us, but for so long with different devices. Here’s hoping we can get someone to resolve this for us soon.
Same here. The issue is happening for quite a long time and with multiple (Android) phones.
Sorry to hear @MuriloP
Fingers crossed we get a resolution on this soon!
Given how long it has been folks I would suggest that rather than being a problem this is simply how Maps works. Most commercial products have those wonderful algorithms that choose things you are interested in. I would recommend you send feedback within the Maps app itself or perhaps visit the https://support.google.com/maps/community and ask about it there.
Paul
Hope you’re well.
Given that I receive updates from random restaurants in Bulgaria that I have no interest in following (I actually don’t follow anything on maps), I’d much rather get a resolution even if I have to wait a while.
I actually did post this issue on Google maps forums first and was told to post on here as this is a local guides feature/issue https://notifications.google.com/g/p/AD-FnEyRz7l8MK8xNNdBf87GrDkAu4tPzSlhwONdmBUVoAwd-BVUS04yreSE8NchXB-QdsdiogitV1Qz_jL571KAFBPxRIAg_jJZFlpaxwUmwp-vCDhs2M00wI2RYg
That is interesting @Hdpatel it isn’t a Local Guides feature since you will get updates even if you are not a Local Guide. As far as I know it is a core Maps feature. When you get an update, does the map pin for the place have a square in it like these? If they do then you are likely seeing paid content from these places in your updates feed.
Hello @PaulPavlinovich
I opted out of local guides option a while ago and the issue still persists so you may be right in this not being a local guides specific issue.
I don’t see any pin drop or marked places by a square icon as per your screenshot. Only a red dot on updates tab that signifies new updates for the restaurants.
Thanks
@Hdpatel if you’ve opted out of Local Guides how do you get in here?
Paul
I actually tried out lots of different suggestions I found online to resolve my issue before I posted it on Google. Opting out of local guides was one of them. But once I was told to post on this forum, I became a local guide once again. I currently am a local guide, but don’t actually use this feature. Hope this helps clarify
Yes it does @Hdpatel
Hope you have a nice day ahead
if you opt out and opt in again do you lose your points?
No, @michaellpl
Your contributions in Google Maps are connected to your account, so when you re-join the program with the same account you get the points back
This is obviously a Google Maps bug. Somehow, some business get linked to your account forever. I bet it’s some shadow from the past, when the thing was in beta. But clean up is long due. Maybe it’s time to go back to complain there, because it might be useful to get updates from places you want to follow, but not from long gone interests, from cities one even moved from (as is my case)… So: it’s not an algorithm thing either.
Ok @MuriloP
Will go back to Google forums, thanks
I reported the bug in-app, but I’m not really hopeful… Post here the link from the new thread there, if you can. Thanks
Hi @MuriloP
