Google Maps from a Walker’s Perspective

If you have ever been in a new city, you know how anxious you feel when you have to navigate around. The anxiety is intensified when you know you have to walk or take public transport In 2016 when I had moved to Johannesburg from Durban I felt nervous every day when I had to go to a new location. I had no sense of direction of which part of the city I was at and I relied mostly on using google maps and google earth to plan my trips and familiarize myself with the places I was intending to travel to.

Since I was commuting and walking I further relied on google reviews to find out if the place was safe and to get the general feel of the place. The local guides answered questions promptly and this made my transition so much easier.

This is why I also love to share intricate google reviews and share opening and closing times and share more details about a location that I think could be useful. The google maps are very important and I would like to encourage everyone to contribute to the maps and contribute truthfully so that we can better our community.

Here are My Tips to Make Moving to a New City Alone a bliss.
• Install google Maps on your phone if you do not already have it.
• Scope Out the Area with reading google reviews
• Opt for Co-Living so that your new friends can help you with getting around your new city.
• Get a power bank and always have backup power because you cannot be able to ask for help if your phone is dead.
• Enjoy yourself and remember to take Caution.
