Google Maps features a picture that was never uploaded to that POI.

I noticed something that I never saw before on Google Maps. Probably many of you have seen this before, but I still thought it was worth sharing for those who haven’t.

Here is a picture that I have uploaded some time ago to the POI “nudist beach” in Vama Veche, Romania.

And even though I never uploaded this picture to the POI “Vama Veche Beach”, Google Maps is now using this photo as the featured picture for that location.

Are you sure you did not upload the photo to that POI?

I remember sometime back you queried here regarding the legitimacy of posting the same photo for the beach as well as the shack.

I just checked. It is uploaded by you and you added a relevant caption.

@C_T You remember correctly. And as a result of that discussion I uploaded the above picture only to “nudist beach” and not to “Vama Veche Beach”. Besides, the discussion was not about uploading that picture to 2 different “beach” POI’s, but to the POI “restaurant” and the POI “beach on which the restaurant was located”.

@MortenCopenhagen Yes, I did upload it. But again, I uploaded it to “nudist beach” and not to “Vama Veche beach”, where it is now featured.

@Ion_Taranu

Photos can be inherited by placed “above” POIs. So if the nudist beach is located “inside” VV Beach that can explain it. Samething if you open a city. It will have good photos from places inside the city selected by AI.

Cheers

@MortenCopenhagen Thanks. That makes sense, indeed.
