This message is for everyone in this forum. I’ve been a guide for almost 10 years, with over 200,000,000 views on photos in Google Maps and Street View photos. I’ve been fully dedicated to Google Maps, doing this entirely free of charge. If I had dedicated my efforts to YouTube, TikTok, or Instagram, I could have become a millionaire in 10 years.
My question is, what comes next? Even though I haven’t received any invitations to workshops or events from organizers, and haven’t received any guidance or recognition, I continue to contribute tirelessly. It seems like Google Guide admins need to find new ways to keep the community strong, and the new generation needs to follow in our footsteps. I will persist in contributing, even if there’s no acknowledgment from Google.
I only receive achievements emails from time to time, stating that I’ve reached millions again. I also want to know how admins select who to invite to events. What are the criteria? With 200 million views, if I’m not qualified, I’m unsure who would be.
I apologize for writing this, but I believe I have the right to express myself as someone who has dedicated their life to consistently going out and contributing to Google Maps.
Congratulations @SiniZeR on so much dedication! A lot of us are very familiar with that feeling ‘it would be nice to get something back for all these efforts, even just some recognition’.
And I know that the Google team is making efforts to show recognition, but with 150+ million local guides it has become very tough to do that on an individual base.
Up to 2019, there was a yearly event where you could apply for (always announced here on Connect) but due to the pandemic it has not been organized for several years now and it’s unclear whether or not it will return.
Anyway, there are also sometimes gatherings of local guides organized by local guides themselves, the so-called meetups. Have you ever considered checking if there is one being held near you? Or perhaps you could consider organizing one yourself?
Do you see, even the admins don’t care about what we are writing? They are not responding to any messages. It looks like we are not valued by the system. So sad.
