Hello my name is Katie Underwood and I am level 5 local guide on Google Maps. I am also a high school English Teacher living in Broome Western Australia – one of the most beautiful places on Earth. I am adventurous and love travelling and sharing my experiences. Immersing myself in nature and different cultures is sugar for my soul. I have a good eye for detail and provide valuable information to others to enhance their travel experience. I have been contributing to Google Maps since August 2017 because I want people to be able to have access to photos and information about the amazing places I have travelled to as well as the place I live. My photos are predominantly of spectacular scenery and dining options at restaurants I visit. I also review many restaurants and establishments to inform interested patrons.
The value adding to Google maps by providing photos, reviews and information is paramount in this digital explosion we are immersed in. I always research places I am travelling to and Google Maps is my starting point. Many of my photos have received over 1000 views and one photo of the Cocos Islands has received over 54 000 views, which I find incredible. In fact, four more of my Cocos Island photos have received over 24 000 views each. This tells me that so many people are searching for information about the Cocos Islands on Google Maps so my contributions are extremely important in filling this void.
I am excellent at communicating and promoting places, products and services and thus have an active following on Facebook and Instagram. Here, I also share my travel experiences through photos and words. I would love to be considered for the Local Guides event: Connect Live 2018 because sharing knowledge with others of a like mind not only stimulates me but also enhances my communication and promotion skills. I want to give back to the world using Google Maps.
