Google maps and street view to the rescue

I was walking through King George V Plying Fields yesterday . It’s adjacent to Sutton Manor Woodland, where the sculpture “Dream” is to be found.

A man with 3 dogs came up to me and asked if I could help him. He couldn’t remember where he had parked his car. The only thing he could remember was that he’d crossed a main road via some pedestrian lights.

There were 2 car parks in the area, one near to us, and one at 4 Acre Lane- that one had pedestrian lights. I suggested it may be that one, and directed him towards it, along the road. He said he couldn’t, as he had no leads for his dogs.

Then an idea. Getting out my phone, I opened Maps and got up the street view for it. No, it wasn’t the correct car park. The only other one was about 1 mile away, in completely the opposite direction at Clockface Colliery Park. Using Street View, he recognised where he had left his car, and went happily on his way. If it wasn’t for Maps, he could be wandering still, looking for his car!
