Google Maps: a New Dimension of Sharing

Travelling back in the days

I am a traveller, and I am a travel addicted. Travelling ten years ago demanded a deep research in the books and the travel guides about the cities, sightseeing etc. Usually the map of the city, where I was going to, was possible to buy only at the tourist information of the destination.

To choose the restaurant or coffee shop was a question of the random choice or the recommendation by the hostel receptionist. Where to go for the breakfast, lunch or dinner? What the night attraction are there? Which cocktail bar is worth to visit? A basic rule was to follow other people on the street and choose the place which is most crowded. The more crowded, the better. Because it should have been the reason why all these people have chosen this place. But not always the reason was a good service or a good food, which I would like.

Tastes differ, as people differ. What are your preferences and expectation from your travel? Family travel, bachelor party, a beach sport or business. How difficult was to find the right information meeting your needs.

Google Maps is a new dimension of sharing the experience

Before Google Maps we were be able to share our experience only with our friends we are connected with through social media, personal blogs and via personal contact. Nowadays it is a new dimension of getting the information. We can share it with a wider audience, to those who are looking for the information about a specific place or a specific city. In this way we also can also evaluate the service or advantages/disadvantages of the place, so to let the business or public institutions to know what to improve.

I like to make reviews of the restaurants, cafeterias and coffee shops, providing the information about the quality of food, the taste of the coffee, how it is served. I think that people deserve to know about tips (if it included in the final bill or not), about the location or atmosphere in general. Not always I am able to capture all of these features. The main prove is the pictures of the food or drinks. I like when the food looks nice on the plate. For me also importanat not only what I eat, but where I eat. In other words, the concept of design of the restaurant or coffee places

It is a new dimension of the dialog between the consumer and the provider when you help to promote the place by sharing your personal experience. Here where I am located now (Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil) not so many people use English. And my reviews in English attract the attention of the managers/owners in a good way and also, I am sure, to open this places for travellers like me from another perspective.

It is amazing to make unknown places known and visible to the world.

It is amazing to be involved in the shaping the world.
