Google is using Local Guides and getting benefitted from their contributions. Earning billions of money. Each of us put a lot of efforts in giving quility reviews and sharing photos and suggesting edits or trailblazing, however Google is just showing lollipops with worthless gifts. I am a level 7 local guide; uploaded 500+ photos with more than 5 lac views and a lot of reviews but I didn’t get a single perk or whatever. I get it, this is a very good way that people contribute and make Google worthy for everybody but I think people should get something in return. I have seen people with lacs of photos I don’t know why they do it for free. If only people are getting benefitted not Google than I have no problem, but if someone is earning money from my efforts then I should get PAID.
Ok If They use local guidelines then why is the name local guides and its a COOooool website

There are actually more than 120 millions of Local Guides in the world (Official data from Connect Live 2019) @BharatTyagi , contributing with their knowledge on a voluntary program who give the opportunity to an always updated Maps to billions of users. So we have an always updated Maps for free, and this is much better than my old navigation system, where I had to pay 100 Euro if I had to update the Map.
Time to time Google is offering perks based on Level, or value of contributions, or by area.
Make sure to check your Email preferences to be informed when a perk is available for you
Hi @ErmesT no offense, but are you saying Google is doing charity for people by giving world’s best map. No, google is earning from it as more and more downloads from app stores and all by all means. And people are downloading maps because it is the best. Why it is the best because people like us are contributing. So why only Google is getting money and not us

You seem to be missing the most important piece of the puzzle right here. People do not expect perks or benefits. Most of us just like contributing to maps. Some add tens of thousands of photos, some edit thousands of places. It’s sort of a passion and the point is to enjoy the process. Sure, it would be nice if we got something, but my point above stands. I would suggest getting a job or not contributing to maps, if you feel this way about it.
Hi @Lukas_1 I agree with your point for passion but my point is some people need something to keep them motivated and if you don’t get anything for your time it’s kind of demotivation. I felt the same way that’s why I posted.
P.S. - I have a nice job which pays me well 
I am not saying Google is doing this for charity @BharatTyagi , so please do not use my reply to say something that is not written in there. I said that we have a free and always updated Maps (like we have a free email, 15 GB of storage, productivity tools etc.).
And I am not expecting Google, nor Facebook or other companies to do this for charity. Contributing is a personal choice, for me, and a passion, as @Lukas_1 said. My motivation is an always updated Maps, My motivation is to improve it for disabled, like my mom, or for emergencies like the earthquake of 2016 in Italy, where the Local Guides had a fundamental roles in updating the information in Google Maps, and this was helping a lot of people and small businesses. I joined Local Guides for this very reason, and I am having a lot of positive feedbacks in this. So, again, don’t use my reply to say something that is not written in there. And, as I said on my previous reply, I am saving a lot of money by using Google Tools. Don’t you?
Hi @ErmesT apologies i didn’t mean to offend you, just a discussion, I went unprofessional. I agree with all the points you made. I also know and support the causes. I am just saying that local guides who put the most efforts or who are atleast at some level or have done some remarkable to maps society, shouldn’t they be rewarded. I understand that there are Google perks but they seems worthless to me as I don’t know when I will get my first perk. I posted this not for myself but for a lot of people who think the same. I knew some of them personally. I know the program is the best and help millions of people in need and there cannot be better than Google now or in near future. But if Google provides perks more often then the society will be more motivated. May be my thinking!! No offense!!

because some people believe in community service, some people want to add value to the world in their own ways. Not everyone can leave legacy behind, but I believe everyone can and must, at least serve the community they live in. I find google maps a very useful tool to explore the world, navigate around when we need it the most and it puts a smile on my face that I was one of those millions who keep adding little by little to it. when I joined this program, I knew it was a volunteer work and never excepted anything in return, like they say " money can’t buy you happiness" , Maps to me, is one such source to feel accomplished.
I personally happen to know someone whose contributions have billions of views ( not millions) , I know people with full time jobs, family , to notch contributions in Maps and they even help or community here on connect, and they all do it because they find this tool valuable and want it to grow without any rewards in return.
Yes, sometimes one might get a little edgy because we live in this materialistic world, but my friend I would say this " try to find happiness in what you do, it will open up new perspectives"

You did not offended me, @BharatTyagi , and I heard this conversation several times. I personally believe that a business is making business, and the perk for us is the use of a lot of free apps, on which we contribute for the improvement, as the mutual benefit for us is an always updated system, and we have it for free.
I don’t know if you travel abroad a lot, and if you use Google Lens to translate everything for you, just for giving you an example, or if you were using a navigation system that you had to buy before Google Maps, or if you use a word editor, or a spreadsheet, or if you pay for the online storage. All this have a value, if we want to talk about money. Unfortunately most of the people think that this is all due, but it is not. I have invited some of them to close the account, and to buy similar products on the market, if they think that product have no value. I can tell you that all of them still be in the program, using the already mentioned products for free. Wonder why?
Hi @BharatTyagi - I couldn’t agree more with @ErmesT & @OmerAli have stated, particularly in terms of the return of the service and use of a platform such as Google Maps in return for the contributions being made. For many Guides, contributing falls into the normal realm of their daily adventures and exploration, and as part of the community, they’re contributing to the idea of helping out someone else out in the same way that using Maps may have helped them in their explorations, for instance. It is not unusual for a company providing a “free” service to not use your data or information in one way or another, and with the Local Guides program you know you’re at least potentially helping a mother decide if a park is safe for her kids or someone who requires assistance with accessibility get to where they need to go. Some may be looking for materialistic return from the program but the community itself, at least personally, is worth the contributions and participation, which makes the offering of perks an added bonus when they are available. Just my thoughts!

@ErmesT @SP31 @OmerAli I agree with your points. Google app is the best app in any segment whether it is a map, email, lens or browser etc. I don’t have any complaints for it. I am enjoying Google apps since I was born because no other company can do it. I don’t have problem with people who want to contribute on Google maps for free. They must be very nice at heart who just thinks only for society and keep contributing. I respect them. But there are certainly a large number of people who also thinks that Google is not paying additionally to them who are contributing the most. Free features of map you will get whether you contribute or not, but if you contribute then Google should also award people, that will motivate them more. I am certainly saying there are large number of people like that including me who are result oriented and can show their best potential when they get something in return. People who are doing it without this thought I respect them more because they are serving community. So basically it is just my thinking or several other people, I thought this, so I posted this.
P.S. I am still contributing to Google maps where are think I should be, just because people should know whether Google give me anything or not, however the frequency has been reduced. I just do it when I think I have free time.
