Google Hosted Meet-Up: Everglades National Park

Hello! For those of you who may not already know me, I’m Traci, a Local Guides community manager based out of our New York City office. I’ll be hosting the meet-up at Everglades National Park this Sunday, August 21. I’m starting this thread so those who are attending (and received a confirmation email) can connect with one another in advance of the meet-up.

This is me though I’ll be wearing a teal Local Guides t-shirt:

Please do plan to arrive by 10:00am. It’s going to be hot (as usual) and in order to pay for everyone’s entrance fees, we must enter as a group (led by me, of course).

I look forward to meeting you all!

Also, while not required, if you’re into Geocaching on the long-term, you can download the related Geocaching app though cell service in the Everglades can be limited.

I registered myself but can I bring my family (wife and 2 kids)?

Hi @GianniD ,

If you received a confirmation email from us, you’re welcome to bring your children. Adults need to opt into Local Guides and RSVP separately — please reference our FAQs. Unfortunately, we’re at capacity for adults for this meet-up at the moment; your wife needs to RSVP if she’d like to be on our waiting list.

Please reply to the email confirmation you received if you can no longer make it.

Thanks!

Hi, excited to meet everyone, i just moved here from NJ and MN. What should we wear and what kind of activities should we plan for?

Hi @LawrenceL ! In the confirmation email, we shared that we’ll be taking on the Park Employee for a Day Geocaching Trail which should take about two hours. Every person is different but I’ll be wearing comfortable clothing (shorts and a Local Guides t-shirt) with lots of sunscreen and bug spray. We’ll be driving between caches which will be nice. See you Sunday!

Thank you so much for those of you who braved the heat (and bugs, let’s not forget about the bugs) to take on the surprisingly challenging but oh-so-very-much-fun Park Employee for a Day Geocache Trail. Please visit that link to see each brochure individually. If you use the Geocaching app or want to start, be sure to log your finds. I’ll be logging mine using #LocalGuides.

Here are a few of my favorite photos:

All of my photos can be found on Google Photos.

If you want to earn more Local Guides points, don’t forget to contribute to the places we visited:

Everglades National Park

Ernest Coe Visitor Center

Royal Palm Visitor Center

Flamingo Visitor Center

And if you’re interested, here are the coordinates mapped out.

I know we just scraped the surface of the Everglades and I look forward to visiting again, hopefully seeing you again.

Don’t forget to share your photos with us here on Connect and if you share on social media (you should!), please use #LocalGuides and #NPS100 so others can easily find and interact with your images.

Even though I’ve lived in Florida for a collective total of 8 years, I had never been to Everglades National Park. This meet-up was an awesome way to experience the Everglades for the first time! I had a blast meeting everyone. From the driving to the different locations to walking in the humid, hot, and bug-infested outdoors, it was an awesome day. Thank you Traci, and Google, for the great times!

Hey @MichaelBMD and @LawrenceL ! Remember Steve? He’s organizing an outdoors-y event for Local Guides Volunteer Day on December 10 if you can make it. More info is available in his post. Wish I could come back down!
