Affordable Technical Education and Industrial for Indian youth is becoming most important for students and their parents. In a country like India people with all types of economic backgrounds and scheduled castes and tribes whose family income some times fall below 2.5 lac INR per year are entitled to get free admission in Govt. and Govt. established Engineering and Polytechnic Colleges provided they achieve minimum academic grades.The Punjab State Govt. has established 2 State Technical Universities namely IKG Punjab Technical University Jallandhar and MRS Punjab Technical University Bathinda and their constituent and affiliated Colleges like Beant College of Engineering and Technology, Gurdaspur, SBS Technology Campus Ferozepur, MIMIT Malout District Muktsar, BHS Bhattal Institute of Engineering and Technology Lehragaga District Sangrur,Giani Zail Singh College of Engineering and Technology Bathinda for Degree and Post Graduate level Engineering and Technology studies. Minimum academic requirement is 12th standard pass from any recognized School/Board with Physics , Chemistry, Maths and English as subjects. Similarly State is running 26 Govt. and 3 Govt. aided Polytechnic Colleges with minimum of one in each District across the state. These Polytechnic Colleges offer admission to 3 year Engineering/Technology Diploma level courses. The minimum academic prerequisite for all these Polytechnic Colleges is 10th standard High School with subjects like Physics , Chemistry, Maths and English. Medium of instruction in all such Polytechnics is English. These are affiliated to State established Punjab State Board of Technical Education and Industrial Training , located at, Chandigarh. There are lot of scholarships schemes available for various students for all types of financial backgrounds. For SC/ST students ( Parent income 2.5 lac per year) no fee is being charged. Similarly there is a scheme for minority categories like ( Parent income 4.5 lac per year) Sikhs, Muslims, Christians etc where fill tuition is refunded to the concerned student. Recently for general and meritorious category of students CM scholarship scheme was launched by the Department of Technical Education Punjab where partial tuition fee is being waived off depending upon the %age of marks obtained in the qualifying examination. The admission process in Technical Universities, Colleges and Polytechnics begins in the month May/June every year and continue till 15th August. Punjab State Board of Technical Education and Industrial Training is nodal agency for making all Diploma level admissions and IKG Punjab Technical University Jallandhar is nodal agency for all Degree and Post Graduate admissions till 15th July every year and there after vacant seats are being filled at the respective Polytechnic College level till 15th August.
