Hi,
I had the suspicion that the photos posted in Google Maps are saved in Google Photo because I don’t use Google Photo at all, but there are photos.
All save, synchronization, backup or other options have been disabled for years and yet recent photos arrive in Google Photo.
I made an experience deleting some photos from Google Photo and I was surprised to see that they disappeared from Google Maps and therefore from my posts remains only the review.
This means that you receive storage with one hand and withdraw with the other (I know that I can use “high quality” option for photos). Even worse, the information is not public and Google moderators argue the opposite. I “paid” this experience/knowledge, deleting without intention photos from Google Maps.
Hi @FlorinelV welcome to local guides connect and thank you for reaching out.
That is not normal at all, depending on your settings. These three sections you mentioned do not interfere with each other, the only thing that may lead to Google drive storage being used is the synchronization and if it is disabled, it will never add your media files automatically.
Please note that if you have switched synchronization off from your computer and still experience the synchronization, it might happen that you switched it on again by mistake from your mobile device. Google Maps contribution do not get stored to your personal Google drive or Google photos storage, but the total capacity of your storage which may be 15GB free storage or Google one consist of Google Drive plus Google photos capacity. Google Maps contribution is stored to Google severs, meaning that even if you restore your device and delete all your photos on Google photos and Google drive you wont loose any of your contribution.
What I know is that, you can still maintain your storage while you use your Google photos by using the free Google unlimited storage, this is how you can do that: Go to Google photos from your device, phone or computer, click on your top left on the three lines, after that scroll down to settings and click on it, you will see what appears on the screen short bellow:
Once you get there, select high quality and save the changes, this will take some time to process, and after that you will have your free storage available. I have more photos on Google photos and have other photos on Google drive with documents and it never take any more of my storage, before I did this I had less then 2% storage left from my Google drive. If you want more than the 15GB free storage, you can buy the 100GB and pay every +month. I hope this will be helpful. Cheers!
Google Maps is not part of this storage, your Google Maps contribution is stored on Google cloud severs. If you need anymore help you can mention me again to assist Cheers!
Hi @FlorinelV that is not possible. The only way to delete photos from your Google Maps contribution is to do it trough Google Maps, from your contribution, you need to make sure that no one else is using your devices secretly to do that, if not, the only way to have your contribution deleted is when you have violated our rules and policies shown here on this link Prohibited and Restricted Content. Thank you.
I do not violate any rule and I’m confident that nobody else use my account.
I made this experience/test yesterday and what I am trying to tell you is that happens.
PS: If you have access to troubleshoot this issue I can give you details and screen captures which show how many photos I deleted, how many contribution points in Google Maps I loosed and from what location on map the photos disappears.
Hi @FlorinelV please do not share your personal details here or with me for now. I will tag a someone to assist. Hi @Petra_M please help us here, thank you.
Thank you so much for your explanation @Raphael-Mahumane as I was beginning to wonder as when @FlorinelV mentioned her experience, it was not the first time hearing it from a fellow LG.
Interesting conversation here. I also experienced the same thing about 2 years ago. After reading your conversation with @Raphael-Mahumane , I decide to delete a photo for Google Maps from Google Photos just to test if the info (which is new to me) from Rapheal is true. The result is that the photo I have deleted from Google Photos is still there on my Google Maps photo contribution. Now I’m wondering why you are still experiencing that issue @FlorinelV .
I don’t know if this is a general issue or it just happens to me.
However the pictures did not disappear immediately from Google Maps, it took some time.
