Hello World!

In the last show from Jeroen Mourik for the unofficial Local Guides World group on Face Book the people talked about video editing for Maps.

Like you may know I used, and I am still using, an complicated way to produce my local news.

For Local Guides it would be better to promote a very easy way, everyone can try out and, by the way, the results are often much more better than my production.

I want to introduce an easy way to you, from which people can develop step by step.

Basis of this way of video editing is the raw material everyone produces by visiting a location.

With that, the Google Assistant on our mobile device will help us to create first viewable movies.

By the way, I do not have the option to create films from selected pictures and movies on my desktop, which is a pity.

With the Google Assistant you can mix photos and movies, but for the beginning we just try out photos and videos separately.

The assistant will create short films like a slideshow or a scene selection from raw material.

When you create a slideshow, at the first time the pictures will be shown all for the same time period.

I prefer to show some longer and other for a shorter time.

That keeps the eye of the beholder busy.

A rule thereby is: Less time is more than a long while.

Bonus: The assistant will underlie the movies with royalty free music, so one can use the film on YouTube and monetize them.

Important: If there are persons in a picture or a movie it could be the way that the assistant will focus on them and will make them so to a main subject of that scene.

For that it is important to control the movies!

If you don’t have the permission of the people to create a movie in that way, one can be sued, at least in Germany.

Be aware that the assistant may create long movies. If so, cut them down in an editing program to 30 seconds and fade out the music then.

If you upload a longer video, Maps will shorten it and the end is sudden.

Later, if the people have some practice to create these kinds of movies one can make the next step and use a video editing app on his mobile device, like Kinemaster. I use the free version of Kinemaster.

Don’t spend money, or too much money on our hobby! Keep in mind, that we are volunteers to help people with their locations, because a lot of them are still not able, or don’t have the will, to keep the things around it in order. And keep in mind, that Maps gives us the opportunity to live a way of freedom of speech, what is the reason why some owner not like Google Locations at all.

But that point will led us to one next step!

In that app one can exclude the soundtrack from a clip, not to delete it, but to make it quieter.

If one has done this, you can use the app to record a personal comment for the movie and implement it. After the film is saved, one can share it with the location and everything is fine.

With that easy workflow, which is often not mine, everyone should be able to create pleasant movies for a Google Location.

Like I have mentioned, there was a discussion in the mentioned show.

The showmaster showed some examples and the audience talked about what could be done better.

I think, that it is a good way to come via the Google Assistant closer to video editing.

My experience from my YouTube channel shows me, that not always everything can be perfect.

Right today I made a video and found out later that the soundtrack got messi at the end.

That is not the end of the world, neither on Youtube, nor on Maps.

The information from the movie will get to the viewer and a messi soundtrack can be entertainment.

In my opinion it is the same on maps.

Live and let live.

But, if one uses the Google Assistant, the outcoming film will have good sound and is always viewable.

:red_circle: Even every owner should be happy with it. :slightly_smiling_face::earth_africa::slightly_smiling_face:

If one wants to see a video where the sound got messi, here is an example: :grinning: (It is in GERMAN!)
