Somebody has just bought me a huge soda. That one we call madiaba. You may want to know the reason. In 1992, a huge cobra snake decided to take a nap inside their only grass thatched house. That snake seemed not to be in a hurry. It’s like he had already bought enough food for his kids back home and he was staying away from a nagging female companion.
You know in those days, such house was the kitchen, living room and dining room and later family bedroom. So you can imagine the frustration the hosts of the snake. Sorry for the weird literature. We must understand.
The will of God prevailed and it happened my grandfather was passing by at that given time. Speaking to himself as he was tipsy having taken one too many for the road. The frothy stuff that treats foot and mouth disease and recently Corona Virus.
My grandfather didn’t fancy crowds. He always believed crowds were always a sign of idling. So he cursed his way in their direction. And his efforts to hurl insults at them to disperse was to no avail. They told him a huge serpent ocuppied their mansion. And nothing, not even supper could be prepared.
He clicked twice. And asked to be shown where “the fellow” was. People wailed as he made his way into the house. Someone tried to stop him. He raised his walking stick to hit him. He gave way.
Tense moment later, and my grandfather emerged from the house with “his fellow”.
He was holding it by the tail. And swinging it furious like he wanted to toss it into the air. People scampered fir safety. Then he smashed it on the ground. And told the cobra something nobody heard. The next minute, the snake was dead. Quickly and permanently as the patriarch of the hoof eaters clan puts it.
My grandfather was a brave man. If only I had an eight of his bravery.
Thats how I won a soda today. You see, if you can’t do anything good enough to leave a legacy, kill a snake by holding it by the tail.
But the madiaba guy insulted me befure he left. How could he tell me that in our entire family he doesnt see anyone who can hold a snake by the tail. Is he daring me?
Maybe this grandfather set the standards way too high. I think I should just cement his grave and gift him with a befitting epithap!
