For me as a passionate outdoor enthusiast, it is always important to find a relevant information at one place. Google Maps is one of the popular communities, where to share the information, instead of browsing different city council pages while searching for information.
However, City Council pages are still good to check, just to find out the latest information on national parks, trails, dangers, etc.
For now, just let me share some of the hiking trails I have visited in New Zealand (Canterbury and West Coast

Rough Creek-Lake Christabel Track (28 km) - this tack most probably will require an overnight stay

Mt.Fyffe route (18 km) - quite tough, will require certain fitness level

Lake Emma Hut (15 km) - beautiful nature around here
