As Local Guides we’re proud of the cities that we live in, aren’t we? Many of us have photographed most of the businesses, restaurants, cafes, monuments and statues, parks and gardens, tourist hot spots and attractions and just about every other points of interest imaginable! You and I have certainly made sure that our own city are on the Map, haven’t we! But how did your city fair on the 2022 most liveable cities of the world index prepared by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU)?
According to the EIU, the Global Liveability Index, which ranks cities across five categories: stability, healthcare, education, culture and the environment, and infrastructure, aims to assess "which locations around the world provide the best or the worst living conditions.” It has said that the 2022 roll back of COVID-19 restrictions in some parts of the world, led to big shifts across the index. For example, from it’s top spot ranking in 2018 and 2019, after rolling back its pandemic restrictions and reopening its cultural and entertainment attractions, Vienna climbed from its number 12 spot last year to number one this year. Copenhagen climbed from number 15 on the list last year to second this year Zurich climbed from number 7 on the list last year to third this year, followed by Calgary, Vancouver, Geneva, Frankfurt, Toronto, Amsterdam, and tied at number 10 were Osaka and Melbourne (Australia)! Western Europe and Canada certainly did well but I’m pleased that ranked number one on the list every year between 2011 and 2017, Melbourne is once again Australia’s highest-ranked city. Hello @PennyChristie
