♿Global Accessibility Awareness Day: Discovering “Alamesa”

Hello dear Local Guides!

Yesterday, May 16, we celebrated Global Accessibility Awareness Day whose main objective is to raise awareness about accessibility issues and how to make our world friendlier for everyone.

Regarding this important day, I want to tell you about a new place that opened in my city recently and that I believe is redefining what it means to be inclusive. This is the restaurant “Alamesa” which opened just a couple of months ago and which I was only able to visit two weeks ago, since in order to go, it is necessary to reserve in advance. I made the reservation in February of this year and I was only able to get a place for the first days of May. I visited the place with my Friends Alejandra and Nidia who you can see in the previous picture. This visit was just on time to give me time to tell you about this great space on this important day.

“Alamesa” It is not just a restaurant, but a beautiful and modern place, where gastronomy merges with opportunity. From the moment I walked through the door, I knew this was no ordinary restaurant, but rather a space that amazes with its commitment to inclusivity. The atmosphere was cozy and modern, but what really stood out was the palpable energy of inclusion and diversity that filled the place.

What makes this place truly exceptional is its focus on providing meaningful opportunities for youth with disabilities. At this restaurant, every employee, regardless of skill, is valued and empowered to play an important role in the operation of the business. Through a system of previously established steps, and guided by a group of employees who help them with admirable patience and joy, the young people prepare the food and serve it with so much love and dedication, that makes you stay and enjoy the proposal. This great initiative demonstrates that disability is not an obstacle to success and that everyone, regardless of the abilities we have, must be taken into account and can provide our grain of sand to society.

In addition to its commitment to labor inclusion, this restaurant also stands out for its accessibility, since everything in the place is comfortable and accessible for people with different mobility possibilities. It has ramps to avoid steps, fully equipped accessible bathrooms and a spacious interior design that offers plenty of room for wheelchairs. The restaurant strives to ensure that everyone, regardless of ability, can enjoy a barrier-free dining experience.

From a cost point of view, this restaurant can be considered a somewhat expensive place, however, every bite I tried and every interaction I had with the staff, reminded me that I was investing in something much more valuable than just a meal. I was investing in a more inclusive and equitable future for all.

On my last visit to Japan, in October last year, I had a similar experience that made me think about the importance of inclusion around the world. I visited a place where, through the use of robots, jobs are provided to people who, for various reasons, cannot leave their homes. I was impressed by how technology was being used to create job opportunities for those who would otherwise be limited in their options. If you want to know more about this amazing place, you can read more in this great postby @silvy .

After that visit, I thought how wonderful it would be to have similar places all over the world, and now, discovering “Alamesa” In Buenos Aires, I feel deep pride and gratitude for having such an inspiring example of inclusion in my own city.

On this important day, I want to pay tribute to all the places like this that are redefining what it means to be inclusive. This place, more than a restaurant; is a beacon of hope and an inspiring example of what is possible when inclusion becomes a priority.

The true beauty of inclusion lies in its ability to bring people together, break down barriers, and create a world where everyone can feel welcome and celebrated. On this day, and every day, let us celebrate diversity and inclusion in all its forms.

Finally, I want to invite you to tell me if you know of any similar places in your own cities. Inclusion is a global effort, and by sharing our experiences, we can inspire and support others in their pursuit of a more inclusive and accessible world for all.

Gracias @Danielaroldangomez !

In Eckernförde gibt es mehrere Einrichtungen in anderen Arbeitsbereichen.

Exacto @LaloPadilla !

Me tocó presenciar muchos abrazos súper tiernos.

But time have changed… Here we have school which train them according to there interest… I have seen blind playing cricket the way they run on ground I was speechless…
