GLG Fitness Moscow meet-up, 06 May 2018, Abhinav Sharma

First Meet-up Experience

Participants: @valeria13 from Russia, Yuntong (Lena) from China and Abhinav Sharma @abhiGLG from India

About Gorky Park:

  1. The Central Park of Rest and Culture Named After M. Gorky, to give it its full name, is one of the most famous places in Moscow. Laid out in 1928, this was the first park of its kind and the prototype for hundreds of others across the Soviet Union.
  2. The park stretches along the banks of the Moscow River and is divided into two parts. The first is primarily of interest to children or those trying to entertain them, as it contains a range of funfair rides and rollercoasters - some safer looking than others, although they are being upgraded all the time.
  3. You can also hire boats or horses, go bungee jumping, and there’s a sports club with tennis courts. In winter the whole area becomes a vast skating rink with skate hire, disco lights, and music to match. In summer the “beach” area is hugely popular with sun-worshippers and becomes an open-air club in the evenings.

Activities we did:

  1. That was really amazing experience with Google Guides, interactive and inspiring. I saw the place where I had been so many times, totally from a different perspective. How could I miss so many interesting things before?
  2. That was great fun to have real interaction with space and people around.
  3. My team was so great - so dynamic and cooperative. We’ve made lots of videos, photos, even feed the local squirrel with the nuts. I think she got her portion for two weeks ahead.
  4. We saw so many great people around us who spend their time in a healthy active way - volleyball team, schoolgirls involved in sword fighting, cyclists, roller skaters.
  5. Great that here in Moscow we have more and more space for such activity.

Our Experience:

  1. That experience showed me how interesting life can be if we look around with more attention, openness, and joy. And that’s was a really creative experience of making good content – see the beauty around and share it with others (for example, a big field with flowers of all the colors in Gorky Park, that’s amazing).
  2. I hope these photos and videos we’ve made would be inspiring and helpful for others! Let’s get out of routine and be travelers and guides for ourselves and others every single day!
  3. We met a very greedy squirrel here. When we called her under the tree, he would climb down and take away the food from our hands. This is really cute. Many pedestrians were also attracted to it, stopped to take pictures. It moves very fast and it’s not easy to take a picture with it. We constantly feed the nuts that we have into small portions. She also does not refuse, has been eating.
  4. It was a cloudy day. When we were ready to leave, the sun came out. It is a very pleasant thing to lie down in the sun on the grass in the park. It’s okay to be afraid of the dew on the grass.
  5. There are many inflatable sofas in the park. Come and spend a weekend with your loved one.

@abhiGLG , it looks like you had a great first meet-up in Moscow. Hope to see many more future meetups in Moscow from you. = )

There is no need to post the same photos and recap in BOTH Let’s Meet Up board and here in the General Discussion board. I am moving your post here back to your original post.

@KarenVChin Ok

Due to some technical problem, I was not able to upload few of the photos to that post. That’s why I add those to a new post. I will be thankful to you if you move them.

Also,I need to learn some skills from experienced local guides. I always feel happy contributing to the society, local guides community and Google.

Hi @abhiGLG I am very glad that you have such a good event! Gorky Park is one of the best parks in the city, there is much to see, there is something to do to have a good time.

Hi @KarenVChin , thanks for pinging me. Problems of the Connect platform that I visit it every day, but I don’t see important regional messages, and I don’t suspect that someone is carrying out an event in a neighboring yard. Earlier there was a notification system by email, which informed all LGs in the city about the forthcoming event in their region. Now is nothing. I and dozens of Local Guides would be happy to participate in the meet-up if we knew about it.

Meanwhile, today I plan to go to the Apothecary Garden (The Botanic Gardens of Moscow State University, Founded by Peter the Great in 1706). Will be there aprox. at 3PM.

This is a reconnaissance visit, for the subsequent organization of an annual spring meet-up. But everyone is welcome. Tag me ( @SergeySud ) if you want to join me today. My red Local Guides T-shirt will not let me get lost.

I was also expecting more promotions and advertisement by the community.

Although I tried to find and tagged some of the local guides in Moscow by myself but at the same time it was strange not getting response to my post from the existing local guides in Moscow.
