So to cut the long story short, often i would travel, take photos on my phone or camera only to lose them for one reason or another (yes, even lose the back up) I have lost countless memories which right now only sit in my head. Then came google drive and i was so glad i could have a cloud back up of all my precious memories. Then One day i got prompted on my timeline to join google local guides and give reviews of places i had visited and i thought that was a brilliant idea, Then i later found i could upload photos to accompany my reviews, then i later found i could add missing places on maps too. Now this is what excited (and is still exciting) me most about being a local guide.
And this, because this beautiful country of mine is largely unmapped. It can prove very difficult sometime to get to places you have never been. Recalling how a group of friends missed my traditional wedding because they couldn’t find my home 380kms from the city, i was so determined to add places to google maps and ask friends to do the same, because if we all do, then maybe Uganda’s street addressing problem will be solved as simply as that. First i added my home as soon as i learned i could add places, then i added my former school in the same village, then my work place in Kampala and so on. I have managed to convince several friends to do the same.
And i wish my country could formally adopt the google plus codes as a form of addressing, because then people will be able to explore new places easier, and friends would not miss friends’ events.
For now, i will do my part: Add as many places, photos, reviews and make travelling easier and less daunting for many and IAM SO GLAD IAM HERE NOW to do exactly that. This is my time!
Thank you Google, thank you all local guides for joining the good cause!
