I recently visited Ginza, a Japanese restaurant located in Dhanmondi, with high hopes of an authentic Japanese dining experience. As someone who loves food, I was curious about the mix of flavors here. The experience was a mix of interesting and confusing moments, making me think about what makes food special Unfortunately, the food was a mixed bag and did not fully live up to my expectations.

Me along with 2 of my friends visited this restaurant. Ginza’s look is a blend of modern style, Japanese touches, and also you will get a view of the Abahani Football field. We started with the green garlic shrimp, which was doused in a thick gravy that tasted more Indian than Japanese. The shrimp itself was fresh and well-cooked, but the heavy gravy masked the natural flavors. For our second dish, we ordered the chicken nanban, which came with a tasty sauce that was a highlight of the meal. The chicken itself was juicy and flavorful. The letdown was the egg fried rice. For the premium price charged, I expected a properly oiled and seasoned fried rice. Instead, the rice was bland, dry, and lacked wok hei. The huge portion was likely an attempt to compensate for the lack of flavor.

Despite the disappointments, the service was attentive. When we provided feedback about the subpar rice, they deductively discounted our bill by 10%, which helped make up for the poor quality.

Overall, Ginza provides an average Japanese dining experience. While they have some hits like the chicken nanban, other dishes clearly miss the mark of authenticity. I would return to try more menu items, but with adjusted expectations. For top-notch Japanese fare, discerning diners may want to seek out other options in Dhaka.

The service was good. They listened when we said the Egg Fried Rice didn’t taste right. They gave us a discount to make up for it. That was nice and showed they care about customers.
