“Ghost Crab” (OCYPODE Macrocera) I met this species at night near_Clifton beach, Karachi, Pakistan :blush:_

At night they are often seen on the beach. ٰIt’s known as Ghost Crab or Sand Crab but these are not ghosts actually :blush: .

So why are they called Ghost Crab ?

  • Because of their ability to blend into the sandy beaches and dunes in which they live

It’s Very beautiful creature, and nature is so beautiful when we see it in front of us apart from the artificial beauty of the city.

The ghost crab is found in India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Myanmar.

  • FYI (There are about 6,793 species of crab found in all of the oceans around the world)

Pakistan’s coastline is about 990 km long, bifurcated in two parts, Sindh Coast (270 km) and Makran (Balochistan) Coast (720 km). and there are so many beautiful places to visit.

Maritime News: (Ref, DWAN NEWS, Jan, 5, 2008)

Led by an expert from the United Kingdom, a Pakistani research team has for the first time identified and recorded the presence of 12 species of marine dolphins and whales in the Sindh-Balochistan waters. The identified species include five dolphin species, one porpoise species, two species of the toothed whale and four species of the baleen whale.

The study forms part of the Darwin Initiative Project, ‘Conservation of Pakistan’s marine cetacean biodiversity and pelagic environment’, a collaborative effort with Karachi University’s Centre of Excellence in Marine Biology (CEMB), the World Wildlife Fund-Pakistan and the University Marine Biological Station Millport (UMBSM).

I think this species is aptly named the ghost crab because of its ability to camouflage with the surroundings.
