How would i be able to search and get top rated restaurents in a city? Not nearest, but say i want to know the best starred and most no of reviewed restaurents in maps?

Try doing a text search for ‘Cityname Restaurants’ like “Avadi restaurants”. On desktop you get a list with the ones with most reviews at the top.
In the apps you can sort the list. Here are the Berlin restaurants list sorted by “top rated”

Zoom out to the area in question, but if the zoom level is larger than an area you can comfortably walk to in say, 45 minutes, then you might need to search on multiple areas.
If I’m there, I search on “Restaurants Near Me Open Now”, if that’s what you’re interested in. Once you have the listings, choose the horizontal likes icon right beneath the “Results” word, or to left of the word “Sort By” and open it. “Filters”. Change the default price to something more adequate, then choose 4.5 Stars, as well as select the food type you’re interested in, then APPLY. I don’t typically choose food type, but DO change the first 2 options. Google’s ratings are usually higher than other online rating systems, so unless it’s a really small town (or an airport that has lousy food ratings) I try to stick to the 4.5 stars.
Scroll through the choices, read the reviews, and if you like it, choose “Save” so that you can get back to it later.
Try zooming out to see if you get other choices, and make sure you select “Search This Area” if it pops up near the top of the map. Our family uses Maps a LOT to find good places to eat, so I’m testament that it works. - Steve @tony_b
