Getting a great photo

So getting a great shot that gets you lots of ‘likes’ - how do you do that!! Well I know this is not very helpful but luck helps and taking LOTS of photos when you see something you like and selecting the best.

I also think it helps having a good camera. I am super lazy so I can’t be bothered carrying my amazing Canon camera around . My son made me get the IPhone 11 just for its camera and he was right. It takes incredible photos!! So get a good phone camera - it’s light, and very quick to use!

This photo of the windmills in Consuegra was a lucky shot. I was driving from Toledo down to Cuidad Real in Spain (part of a 2 month road trip - how lucky was I) and I saw these windmills from the motorway! I thought ‘wow’ they looking amazing. So I drove to them - it’s was a totally spur of the moment thing. I was lucky in that the weather was incredible - it was a cold December day but with hardly any clouds and sunset was approaching so the quality of the light was superb. Also being December is was super quiet! They were two other tourists about that late afternoon.

So I was able to take my one of my most popular shots on my Google Maps! Why is it so popular? Well I think it’s a nice photo but probably more importantly this place is not so well known. It’s not that famous - although it should be - so I think it surprises peopl,e like it surprised me. This place has the wow factor. So my tips for getting a great shots are

  • be adventurous
  • always be curious
  • go with instinct
  • take lots of photos
  • the more you do the luckier you get
  • get a good phone camera so you can take shots quickly

So this is not the most technical post as I am not a technical photographer. For me it’s all about eye, feel and luck and taking lots of photos

Hi @PatrickBastow ,

Welcome to Connect!

I am impressed by your photo! Thanks for sharing also those tips with us! It was very inspiring when I was reading your post as my hobby is also photography and me like you, I am lazy to bring everywhere my camera Panasonic Lumix. That’s why I use my phone to take photos wherever am I.

I’ve visited Toledo last year in May and I’ve created a post about it because I was very impressed by the town. If you are interested in, check it out: Ein Tag in Toledo, Spanien.

Thanks @PatrickBastow for this post!

I like the perspective of your photo!

Bye,

David

Thanks for your tips @PatrickBastow

I’m not a professional photographer either, so this post is great for the ones of us who just like to take pictures with our phone and get out there to find the perfect shot.
