Hello I have a question it is really bothering me why is it that when I post a photographs I get so many views but when I write a review I don’t get any likes or views does this happen to anyone else? And how do I get more reviews I feel so discouraged as a locall guide
If you read the content policy of Google reviews you will see it’s very hard to put reviews that goes clear of the policies. Lots of reviews are held back. And Google is also thinking of changing that text format reviews i guess , like you can put short video reviews etc. I have massive reviews and lots of them are still held. For edits, new places and reviews (if not approved) you shouldn’t be discouraged. Move on ![]()
@Trail_blazer Thank you very much I was gonna give up on it I love being a LG it’s a very fun job!! I feel like we work for google maps sort of!!
Hi @Wesrey93
Actually, none of your reviews are currently hidden as @Trail_blazer implied.
I believe reviews get much fewer views because photos are so much quick and easy to consume. And Google Maps wants to be a visual medium.
Photo views are counted as soon as they are requested from the photo servers. Each time you open a page at least 20 photos are requested from the photo servers. And the user will not actually see them all unless she scrolles or swipe to see them. So some views aren’t actually seen.
Also, photos get used a lot more often and even on other platforms than reviews that users actively need to request to see.
If you think photo views were counted only when a Maps user clicked or tapped on one of your photos to see the bigger version, this is not correct.
I don’t think your reviews get fewer views than what other local guides experience.
You made 29 reviews in over 10 months and got almost 5000 review views. You can calculate the # of review views per month per review and then compare with others.
Reviews just don’t get as many views as photos. Keep guiding.
Cheers
Morten
Reviews are still mystery to me. I have filed for reviewing of my reviews but so far nothing significant has happened. I have 1700 reviews on board but only 199 are visible. I have checked manually 100s of my reviews for any violation there are pretty good but still not available for public. I have stopped put new reviews as of now. Hidden reviews is issue with many mappers not just me.
I’m not doubting your problems with reviews. But hidden reviews is surprisingly not @Wesrey93 's problem.
You can see my thoughts on the hidden reviews problem here.
All the best
Morten
@MortenCopenhagen thank you it’s a fun hobby for me
@MortenCopenhagen its like we are working for google maps to me!! I started doing this last year and it feels like an actual job!
Hi @Wesrey93 , first and foremost, let me take the pleasure of welcoming you to Connect. I can see you have joined this wonderful world only 2 weeks ago. You sure have a lot of things to learn here.
First of all, as you are new here, I would recommend you to read the 5 core values of Connect to know this forum better. I also suggest you to go through Your guide to Connect and 14 helpful tips for using Connect
All photos posted here, in Connect, should belong to you, meaning, taken by you and not from other sources. Connect prefers originality. For more information, check out this cool article, that will help you understand how to follow original content guidelines on Connect. Here are some guidelines and tips for uploading photos on Connect. Hope you find these helpful.
As for the reply to your particular query, @MortenCopenhagen already said what I wanted to say. We all prefer visuals over descriptions, don’t we? Hence, the reviews don’t get as many views as the photos do. Please don’t get discouraged by this small thing. As a Local Guide our job is to portray the place to the rest of the world with the details. For example, if you are reviewing a restaurant, let the world know what to eat there, how much they charge for a meal, what their specialties are, if they have accessible seating or restrooms, or entrance, if this is a family restaurant or is it good for a friends’ party, etc. etc. Try to add these small details to your reviews. And slowly, but eventually you will see your reviews are getting viewed and you might get ‘likes’ to your reviews too. I hope this will help.
Lastly, don’t forget to Introduce Yourself here. You will find a lot of other fellow local guides in that post. Hope you enjoy your time here.
Happy Connect-ing!
@SoniaK hello there I would like to say thank you for introducing yourself to me and a warm welcome I love being a local guide I was a bit discouraged but I won’t give up I love helping others!! Thank you again for saying hello to me and welcoming me! I don’t log on this forum much but I check it every once in a while
Hi! I rarely have anyone like one of my reviews so I hear ya! It certainly has made me much more aware so that I’m sure to like reviews when I read them. I think it’s just a matter of connecting to the right people but I don’t know, I only have 6 followers. ![]()
Hi @kdubb , welcome to Connect! I understand you have just joined this forum. I would like to request you to take some time and visit the posts I shared earlier here to understand this forum better.
When you reply to someone’s comment, remember to mention the person who you are replying to. To mention a person, you need to use the @ character before their Connect ID. For example, if you reply to my comment, you need to mention me in your comment, or else I will never know what you wrote for me unless I come back to this post again. So, to mention me, all you have to do is type @ special character and then type SoniaK, i.e. my Connect ID. That’s how I mentioned you at the beginning of this post.
Getting likes for your review is relatively slower than getting liked for your photos. Simple reason, we prefer visuals over descriptions. Still, reviews get attentions too, if you provide useful information. Such as, the price, the crowd, the business hours, specialties, etc. For example, if you read this post, you will know how to write a helpful reviews on bakeries, or this post for tips on helpful coffee shop review. Lastly, this post will help you overall understand writing helpful structured reviews. The more you will write reviews the more you will understand what to include in your reviews. So, keep writing.
Happy reviewing! Happy Connect-ing! ![]()
Hey there @Wesrey93 I can totally understand how you feel! Review views are definitely not as easy to “figure out” as photo views. I will share what has worked for me, but I’m still figuring it out myself.
I took a look at your profile and the first thing I noticed is that your reviews are brief and rather general. I’d recommend adding more details. I’d also suggest making them more personal to your experience. A review that summarizes"… The food was good and I recommend this place!" doesn’t stand out from the crowd. Share what made the food good!
Include details about the service and the establishment , as well. Were you greeted and how quickly? Seated waiting area? Friendly employees? Are the bathrooms clean? Diaper change station? Is the business easily accessible for all? What’s the parking situation? These things will set a review apart from a general one.
Photos are also key to increased views. I did notice that you have some nice photos with your current reviews, keep that going! Generally, the Featured reviews have multiple photos. A photo of the exterior, interior and your plate for instance. Do some experimenting by adding another photo or two to your next reviews. Write down the date you uploaded the review and track the views each month. If the numbers jump up, excellent! If they don’t change much - then you can always remove the photos that aren’t getting considerable Photo Views. I’ve also noticed that reviews that have the Featured Photo will also get more reviews, so always aim for that.
Lastly, I encourage you to limit usage of exclamation points. I’m an expressive person and it’s my nature to use them often. But, I’ve noticed through my own trial and error that Google’s AI has a dislike for more than 1-2 per review. Use them sparingly and for maximum impact.
These are ways I’ve been successful in making my reviews more appealing. I currently have 316,000 views and 721 helpful votes on 224 reviews. This exact time last year I had 175,000 views with 310 helpful votes on 214 reviews. I say this not to brag, simply to show what’s possible if you dedicate time to figuring them out. It’s possible!
At the end of the day, reviews that are informative, interesting and helpful to those researching the POI are the ones that get more views. That’s why we do, what we do - To make it easier for others to find or decide.
Please tag me if you ever have any questions, always glad to share if I think I can help. ![]()
