From the history of the lake this was built in order to save the rain water during our ancient time there was the determination of our ancient king not to drain sea any drop of water without taking maximum usage of it, the tank provides water for agricultural activities of around 300 acres main pady cultivation. This serve to season of pady cultivation called “Maha Kanna “ and “Yalla kanna”.

also tank was used to bath, cloth washing, drinking purposes for animals and fishing but buy the passing of time due to a kind of weeding spread now a days above purpose almost stopped accept drinking purposes for animal.

The most intresting part in this geo walk you can see the full view of Ritigala Mountain. The Ritigala is Archealogical and Srict Natural Reserve is the highest mountain in northern Sri Lanka. The modern name Ritigala is derived from the ancient name Ariṭṭha Pabbata (Dreadful Mountain), mentioned in the Mahawamsa.

High Volttage electricle power line which carries the current for the nothern province from central Province passes through over this area enrich the beauty of this location

The structures of of Lake and surunding calm and quiet , greenish environment giving enthusiasm to walk through. Really enjoyed I welcome all of you to enjoy the beauty of this location.

Note:- During the dry season upper river bank of this lake will be used as playing ground that what named as Nikkawewa ground in Google Map.
