Just wondering how do Geo tags help on GMAPS?
Been reading about Alt tags and how those tags assist the visually impaired. Do understand that alt tags are for html.
Just would like to assist those with wanting to use alt tags.

Hi @O_Nate ,

A GeoTag is a piece of data that is attached to your photo. It normally reflects the GPS location registered by your camera device.
GeoTags are used by Google Maps to help determine which photos are relevant to a certain location but overall the GeoTag has very little weight (as in evidence) as the GPS location can easily be edited/ manipulated.
Google Maps has its own “Alt Tag” system where you can name the product or menu item of your photo. This allows Google and its users to be better informed about what products and services are available at a certain business location.
In the meantime, with the help of the Google Crowdsoure program, the Google AI computer system is getting better in recognizing the content of photos and we know that Google keeps keywords in a database related to your photos. Again a kind of tag system, but different from the html tag system that you referred to.
Interesting topic. I hope others will chip in with further information.

Hi @O_Nate thank you for reaching out.
You just received the best detailed answer from @JeroenM . To add on what he mentioned, for all these to be true on Google Maps you need to have your internet connect, location turned on from your device, if you open Google Maps the app will automatically find your location mostly if you did the above before opening your app, if you did it after opening your app you might have issues finding your location or you might need to re-open, or restart the app. To read more about this please follow this link on Control access point inclusion in Google’s Location services.
What this feature does is that it detect the location from the photos you have taken yourself and use that information to suggest to you that you add these photos to Google Maps on the specified locations after a certain period you visited the place, sometimes it gets the location incorrect, the auto suggestions shows up only if you turned on auto suggestion from Google Maps your self.
If you do not read carefully you may sometimes add photos to incorrect locations or adding duplicates photos to the same location, these has affected a few local guides before. Thank you.

Just to let you know that I am marking @JeroenM 's reply as a solution, so other Local Guides can refer to it. The purpose of this feature is to help Local Guides find answers when searching on the Connect. Please take a look at: How do I mark comments as solutions? article.
@JeroenM thank you for taking the time to clarify this and adding the extra information.
Your answer sums up everything nicely.
