Ganesa or commonly called Bathara Ganesa is a giant elephant head, that have been told through wayang kulit an Indonesian traditional attraction
Bathara Ganesa is the son of Bathara Guru or Sanghyang Manikmaya with Dewi Uma.
He was born with the wishes of Bathara Guru who wanted a son who was skilled in educating.
In his lifetime, Bathara Ganesha was tasked with giving knowledge to the people of Tribuana. Therefore he is exalted as a symbol of the source of all knowledge.
Ganesha is usually depicted with an elephant head with a distended belly. The statue has four arms, which is the main depiction of Ganesha. He carries his ivory fracture with his lower right hand and carries a sweet cup, which he carries with his trunk, on the lower left hand. Ganesha’s motive whose trunk is curved sharply to the left to taste the sweets in his lower left hand are the main characteristics of the past. In the usual embodiment, Ganesha is depicted holding an ax or a in the upper hand and a snare in the other upper hand.
His elephant-shaped head makes it easy to recognize. Ganesha is famous as :
- “Repellent of all obstacles”
- “The Guardian God for who want to start working”
- “Guardian of all obstacles” (Wignesa, Wigneswara),
- “Guardian of art and science”,
- “Guardian of intelligence and wisdom”.
Hindus migrate to the Indonesia archipelago and bring their culture, including Ganesha, with them. Ganesha statues are found throughout the Indonesia archipelago in large numbers, often next to the Shiva temple. Ganesha’s form is found in Hindu art in Java, Bali and Kalimantan, which shows specific regional influences.
